DevOps Engineer

  • Full-time

Company Description

Ridgeline was founded in 2015 by a group of people with more than half a century of combined experience contributing to U.S. National Security. We understand our clients’ unique missions and we deliver innovative solutions to their most difficult challenges, filling critical technical gaps across the U.S. Government and business worlds. At Ridgeline, our capabilities extend from the classroom, where we provide the tools and training needed to work and communicate securely, to our engineered systems of specialized hardware and software that address critical security issues, and into Research and Development, where we dream, design, and build solutions to the threats of tomorrow. We iterate and deliver quickly – in the course of weeks or months, not years – and we’ve trained more than 1,000 people, deployed to over 50 countries, and managed systems with more than 2,000 end users.

Job Description

We are looking to bring on an experienced DevOps Engineer to join a growing team supporting the enterprise's automation needs as part of the Site Reliability Engineer group. The ideal candidate in this position would have a minimum of 5+ years of direct and hands-on experience automating the deployment of Linux-based systems, applications, and supporting infrastructure.

The main goal of the Site Reliability Group is to increase customer satisfaction and confidence in our solutions. Any part of the solution that can or does reduce reliability is where you will find us working. SRE is a practical implementation of DevOps as a culture. DevOps has been seen as a set of tools implemented, but it's more than the tools. It's the culture that it fosters and the agility it precedes. By reducing the time to deploy, we're able to create a shorter feedback loop and meet our customer's needs faster than before with a quality they haven't yet seen.

We believe this is an excellent opportunity to join a small yet experienced team instrumental in driving consistency and speed through automation. If you thrive in a friendly yet competitive, highly technical, fast-paced, dynamic environment, aren’t afraid of ‘figuring it out, and love technology, this is the job you’ve been seeking.  We will challenge you.  We will push you to do great things.

What you will do:

  • Create Ansible roles and playbooks processes and containers
  • Craft unit tests using Molecule
  • Set the standards for the automation pipeline from creation, testing through production level delivery
  • Identify areas of process and technology improvements.

In the first six months you will accomplish:

  • You will be integral in helping establish a common and systematic approach for all future automation tasks.
  • You will measure your success through early 'wins' by reducing the time to delivery of our software stacks from a currently (manual) 40 man-hours to under 1 hour (that's the bar, think you can do better?)
  • Mentor and train other administrators and engineers throughout the company to automate deployments in support of their projects.
  • Develop a platform to upgrade our existing software, hardware, and applications.

Qualifications

What you need to qualify:

  • Must be eligible to obtain a US Government Clearance
  • Strong communication skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Linux (especially Ubuntu) with a deep understanding of:
    • networking
    • host-based firewalls
    • system hardening
    • kernel building
    • authentication and authorization
    • auditing and logging
  • Experience with software: Ansible, Jenkins, Molecule, GitLab, Docker
  • Experience writing scripts using Python, Bash, Perl (do people still use Perl?)

Nice to haves:

  • Working knowledge of Kubernetes
  • Understanding of container best practices and alternative tools like (cri-o, buildah, podman, openshift, etc.)
  • Understanding of how to handle postmortems
  • Experience crafting SLOs
  • Active Security Clearance
