Your role as the Senior Manager, Public Policy will seek to positively influence public policy in support of the best financial interests of Rest members. Working closley with the General Manager, Public Policy & Advocacy, this role has a focus on investments public policy, including our sustainable development goals and may work across policy areas as diverse as superannuation policy, regulation of investments and taxation settings, and thematics as broad as Climate Change and Net Zero transition, clean and affordable energy, agriculture, social and affordable housing, decent work, gender equity and social and economic inequality

  • Develop and maintain public policy positions that enhance member investment returns, working collaboratively with senior leaders and subject-matter experts across Rest.
  • Prepare high-quality submissions, policy documents, white papers, and briefings on issues important to Rest and its members.
  • Support the development of policy advocacy strategies to further Rest members' best financial interests, including engagement with government and industry stakeholders.
  • Provide advisory and consulting support across Rest Investments to assist in the creation, application, and development of policy positions.
  • Work collaboratively with various teams, including Communications and Community, Responsible Investments & Sustainability, and investment asset class teams, on policy-related responses to stakeholder enquiries.
  • Maintain a comprehensive view of policy positions held by key stakeholders and industry bodies.
  • Support advocacy strategies for policies associated with Rest's prioritised Sustainable Development Goals, including Gender Equality, Affordable and Clean Energy, Decent Work and Economic Growth, Reduced Inequalities, and Climate Action.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent  

  • Postgraduate qualifications desirable but not essential  

  • Demonstrated experience and advanced capability in policy development and/or government relations, ideally in a similar role  

  • Demonstrated policy capability in at least two of the functional areas shown below: 
  • Superannuation 
  • Investments 
  • Sustainability and ESG 
  • Climate Change, Net Zero and/or Energy Transition
