Job Description
About You
You are a Software Engineer who treats quality as a property of the system, not as a separate testing phase. You are comfortable working with data, code, and delivery pipelines. You can investigate how data moves through a system, identify where failures may occur, and implement automated mechanisms that detect problems early. You do not approach quality as simply writing more test cases, instead you drive change through test architecture, feedback loops, maintainability, ownership, and how engineering teams can validate their own work effectively. You can turn a defined problem and intended outcome into working software, collaborating with others to shape the solution. You are comfortable exploring unfamiliar technical areas and using available documentation and expertise to make progress. If that’s YOU – then this is the perfect role for you!
Your Responsibilities
As our new Software Engineer, Quality, you will join the Quality Engineering team within the Global Technology Division and report to the Global Head of Quality Engineering. You will help develop the frameworks, tooling, and automation that enable teams to continuously validate, observe, and improve the quality of their systems. Through hands-on investigation and validation of selected product areas, you will identify significant risks and turn that understanding into reusable testing capabilities and guardrails.
In this role you will:
- Design and implement reusable automated-testing scaffolding for data pipelines and data products.
- Integrate automated checks and quality feedback into CI/CD and data delivery workflows.
- Contribute to the design of quality gates, minimum test expectations, and engineering standards as part of the wider Quality Engineering function.
- Help delivery teams adopt the shared testing capabilities and create maintainable tests for their own data pipelines and products.
- Provide hands-on implementation or coaching where needed
- Build tooling that makes it easier for engineers to add tests, understand failures, and act on quality signals.
- Review the effectiveness of the implemented checks and guardrails, and improve them based on evidence and team feedback.
- Participate in the broader Quality Engineering team, sharing learnings and contributing to quality-engineering practices beyond a single delivery team when needed.
Qualifications
You Offer
- Working proficiency in Python, including debugging code, writing automated tests, and using technical documentation effectively.
- Strong knowledge of SQL, including understanding of data pipelines, transformation workflows, and the ways data can become incomplete, inconsistent, stale, duplicated, or incorrectly transformed.
- Understanding of test architecture and different layers like unit, integration, contract, and end-to-end, and experience integrating automated them into CI/CD workflows.
- Professional proficiency in English.
It would be a plus, if you have:
- Experience working with data-intensive, distributed, or platform-oriented systems.
- Experience with Databricks or another modern data platform.
- Familiarity with GitLab CI/CD.
- Experience with AWS or another cloud platform.
- Experience with data contracts, schema validation, pipeline observability, or data-quality tooling.
- Experience enabling engineering teams to own and maintain automated tests rather than creating a permanent dependency on a separate testing function.
- Exposure to AI-assisted engineering tooling or the validation of AI-generated outputs.
Additional Information
Please note that we will only consider candidates with a valid work permit.
The salary range for this role is EUR 56,700–69,300
