Senior Manufacturing Manager

  • Full-time
  • Employment Type: Regular (PERM)
  • Remote Work Available: No

Job Description

Renesas is looking for an experienced Senior Manufacturing Manager to lead front-line manufacturing operations at our Penang site, one of Renesas' key back-end assembly and test facilities supporting automotive, industrial, and IoT semiconductor products. This role is responsible for day-to-day production performance across multiple shifts and manufacturing lines, while driving operational excellence, capacity, and workforce strategies that keep the site competitive in a fast-moving semiconductor market.

The Senior Manufacturing Manager is a critical link between the shop floor and site leadership, translating corporate operational goals into executable floor-level plans and escalating systemic issues that need cross-functional or leadership attention.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end manufacturing performance for assigned production lines, including output, yield, cycle time, cost per unit, and on-time delivery targets.
  • Lead a multi-shift team of production supervisors, engineers, and technicians (typically 500+ headcount), building bench strength and succession depth.
  • Drive continuous improvement using Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) methodologies to reduce cost, scrap, and downtime.
  • Partner with Process Engineering, Quality, and Equipment Engineering to resolve yield excursions and equipment-related bottlenecks.
  • Manage capacity planning and production scheduling in coordination with Supply Chain and Planning teams to meet customer demand commitments.
  • Champion EHS (Environment, Health & Safety) compliance and drive a zero-incident safety culture on the floor.
  • Own the manufacturing operating budget for assigned lines, including labor, materials, and overhead cost control.
  • Lead new product introduction (NPI) and technology transfer activities from a manufacturing readiness standpoint.
  • Report site-level KPIs (yield, OEE, safety, cost, delivery) to senior leadership and drive corrective actions for gaps.
  • Build and sustain a high-performance culture through coaching, structured problem-solving (e.g., 8D, DMAIC), and employee engagement initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field. Master's degree or MBA is a plus.
  • 10+ years of progressive manufacturing experience in a semiconductor, electronics, or precision manufacturing environment, with at least 3-5 years in a managerial capacity leading multi-shift operations.
  • Strong working knowledge of semiconductor back-end processes (assembly, test, and/or wafer fab operations, depending on site scope).
  • Demonstrated success driving Lean/Six Sigma initiatives with measurable cost, yield, or throughput improvements.
  • Experience managing P&L or cost-center budgets for a manufacturing unit.
  • Solid understanding of EHS regulatory requirements and quality systems (ISO 9001, IATF 16949, or equivalent).
  • Proven people-leadership track record in hiring, developing, and retaining engineering and production talent.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with automotive-grade semiconductor manufacturing standards (ISO 9001, IATF 16949, PPAP, APQP).
  • Familiarity with MES, SAP, or other manufacturing execution/ERP systems.
  • Six Sigma Black Belt or Lean certification.
  • Experience leading site-level digital transformation or Industry 4.0 initiatives.
  • Prior experience in a global, matrixed organization coordinating with regional or corporate stakeholders.
