Maintenance Manager

  • Department: Other

Company Description

Pale Hall, one of the leading destination hotels in Wales, is recruiting a full time Maintenance Manager to take responsibility for the maintenance and compliance of this magnificent Victorian country house, set in 25 acres of formal garden and woodland.

We are seeking candidates with considerable experience in all aspects of maintenance, and are particularly interested in those with a wealth of knowledge of historic buildings.

This is a key position at the heart of the hotel, requiring strong organisational skills, keen vigilance and the ability to work on initiative and to prioritise.  Flexibility is essential to meet the demands of a complex structure with Listed Building status where the unforeseen can often happen.  Enthusiastic and conscientious, you should also be prepared to be on-call as and when required.

The role will involve close liaison with the operational heads of department and with the gardens team to ensure that work is prioritised in a timely manner with the minimum of disruption to the hotel operation, instructing and supervising external contractors under the direction of the General Manager.

Pale Hall has 18 bedrooms and suites within the main house and 4 charming garden suites in the drive, including the dramatic Harpers Barn.  There are three restaurants, a number of comfortable guest lounges and extensive back of house areas housing the main kitchen, satellite pastry and prep kitchens, basement laundry, boiler room, water filtration system, office and staff accommodation.  A significant percentage of the hotel’s electricity is generated by a hydroturbine, a sound mechanical knowledge is therefore an advantage.

Purpose of role:

Under the direction of the General Manager to be responsible for the day to day and planned preventative maintenance and compliance of the hotel building, garden suites and associated areas of the business.  To ensure that routine inspections and services are scheduled and carried out in a timely manner.  To liaise with departmental managers and heads of department in co-ordinating and prioritising all maintenance requirements to ensure that the highest standards are preserved at all times.  To direct the Maintenance Handyman, and ensure that all equipment and machinery is operated in a safe and professional manner.

 Personal requirements:

To be self motivated, well organised and thorough, with a clear understanding of the expectations of the business and what is required within the role.  To have the skills and knowledge to maintain the fabric, fixtures and fittings of the hotel to the highest standards within the budgeted limits to ensure that the hotel and associated areas are fully operational.  To have excellent communication skills, and to display a positive, willing and flexible attitude towards the role and the working environment.

We value our people, and do all we can to make Palé Hall a rewarding and fulfilling place to work.  We offer a competitive salary between £30,000 and £35,000 per annum depending on experience, onsite parking, free meals on duty, generous hotel discounts and monthly gratuities.

Candidates must have the right to live and work in the UK, and be confident that they can commute to the hotel within the shift pattern of the role.
