Job Description

What you will do:

We currently have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced and charismatic Sommelier to join our team. Our luxury lodge is one of the most celebrated boutique resort hotels in the world, with the restaurant offering renowned cuisine and a fine selection of wines. Our wine list consistently wins, and is currently awarded, Wine Spectator's "Best of Award of Excellence".

We are seeking a suitably qualified and experienced person to lead the wine programme with our award-winning team. 

Reporting to the F&B Manager, you will have an effective presence on the floor, driving our wine experience for our guests with thoughtful pairings and meaningful connections. You will be responsible for managing the cellar and training the team.  This is a key position and the successful candidate will need to have a strong focus on excellence, plenty of enthusiasm and a flexible approach , plenty of enthusiasm and a flexible approach.  Responsibilities include:

  • Training and upskilling the team; in both food and wine service
  •  Supervising shifts
  • Buying and ordering wine; maintaining the cellar
  • Working closely with the head chef around daily menus and appropriate pairings

Qualifications

About you:

  • A passion for service delivery and the Hospitality Industry
  • Excellent wine knowledge with proven ability to engage guests and maximise wine sales
  • WSET qualifications, at a minimum
  • Previous senior level Food & Beverage experience in boutique lodges or 5 star properties
  • A background in Relais and Chateaux properties will be highly regarded
  • Knowledge and ability to train, grow and lead a team
  • Impeccable personal grooming
  • Knowledge and experience with Hospitality Management systems
  • Strong and effective communication skills
  • Ability to work accurately in a fast paced and dynamic environment
  • Exceptional organisational skills
  • Flexibility and maturity in approach - able to work shifts, including weekends
  • And a winning personality, with the ability to surprise and delight!
