Position Overview

Reporting to the Vice President, Human Resources, as the Director, Corporate Communication you provide leadership and guidance to all executive conversations surrounding internal communications that drive employee engagement, corporate awareness and protect corporate reputation.  You accomplish this by sharing our story across the community, cultivating strong media relations, and other stakeholder messaging.  You add value to RCL by contributing to a best-in-class employee experience, championing diversity and inclusion practices, influencing employer brand concepts and elevating communications across all corporate audiences from head office to Distribution center and throughout the 400+ stores across Canada.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop a multi-year communications strategy aimed at fostering employee engagement and positioning the company externally.
  • Influence and advise senior management on communication strategies.
  • Ensure the development and deployment of effective communication plans for the company's various projects, programs, and major announcements in order to promote change, optimal delivery and understanding of messages.
  • Build support for our organizational agenda while engaging and cultivating key government and industry stakeholders, such as the OQLF.
  • Manage internal communication tools for employees (Town Halls, intranet platform, TV screens, etc.) and external communication tools (press releases and corporate social networks).
  • Write and develop relevant bilingual content adapted to the different target groups.
  • Ensure corporate media monitoring, manage media relations, prepare spokespersons for interviews and act as spokesperson when needed.
  • Support the social media teams of our 3 brands, Customer Service and stores in the preparation of responses related to sensitive or controversial topics. 
  • Collaborate with our external public relations firm to define communication strategies and messaging for situations that may affect the company's brand.
  • Implement a crisis communication management process.
  • Contribute to the development of an employer brand as well as related communication activities and materials.
  • Organize and manage corporate events, including annual head office employee events and philanthropic initiatives.
  • Manage the operation of The Boutique, a store for head office employees that also donates clothing and accessories to local charities.
  • Manage the main reception area of the head office.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, or other related field (Master's degree would be an asset).
  • 10 + years of experience in communications and/or public relations in a senior leadership role.
  • Successful experience managing and supervising as a communications leader for a large organization (publicly traded company an asset).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills (including writing, editing, and proofreading), with the ability to adapt to different audiences.
  • Experience in media relations, engaging with government entities and crisis management.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain excellent interpersonal relationships, network and foster collaboration across business units and departments.
  • Demonstrates values such as loyalty, integrity and respect for confidentiality.
  • Good knowledge of social media and technology solutions for communications.
  •  Previous experience in creating and launching an employer brand and career website would be an asset.
  • Fluently bilingual in English and French, both written and spoken.
