Job Description

The St. James is seeking a Chief Engineer to oversee the overall maintenance and engineering operations. This role is responsible for providing leadership for the maintenance team to drive revenue, maximize profit and ensure quality. The Chief Engineer will focus on the achievement of overall financial results, guest satisfaction and positive employee relations.

Essential Duties:

  • Responsible for preventive maintenance, routine inspections, guest service recovery, asset protection, procurement guidelines and capital expenditures.
  • Maintain all property HVAC Systems, electrical, mechanical systems and make necessary repairs. Assesses and evaluates functionality of all equipment and assets. Performs preventative tasks and records required information.
  • Assists and responds to guest requests in a friendly and positive manner, while providing the highest level of service.
  • Works as a team player in meeting guest needs, and actively contributes to the efforts of other departments when necessary. Works with appropriate managers in a respectful and courageous manner to recommend maintenance service solutions.
  • Maintains a clean and safe property in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Manage assigned staff: provide clear goals and expectations; ensure clarity of roles and responsibilities; coach; manage performance; develop; salary administration; enforce systems, policies and procedures; recruit, select and onboard new employees.
  • Achieve financial objectives by forecasting requirements; preparing an annual budget; scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions.

Qualifications

Qualified candidates should hold a bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) from a four-year college or university and a minimum of 5 years related experience/training; or equivalent combination of education and experience, with at least 5 years maintenance experience, preferably in the hotel industry, performing carpentry, HVAC, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing functions.

Candidates should ability to read and interpret documents, plans and schematic drawings and comprehend instructions; Ability to effectively present information to departmental management, employees, and outside contacts; Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as material quantities. In addition, candidate must hold a valid Driver's License and MN Special Boilers License (or ability to obtain)
