Job Description

The Corporate Accounting Manager is responsible for the oversight of the period end close process, fixed assets, external and management reporting, providing technical accounting expertise, and providing direction and inputs to key accounting and reporting systems. This role will partner closely with business operations, Treasury, Tax, and FP&A. This requires a motivated and detail-orientated individual capable of coaching staff, actively managing competing priorities, producing high quality work product and comfortable working under deadlines.  This role is responsible for communicating results with senior management and acts as a business partner to management to support our continuing effort to deliver outstanding quality and service to our customers.

  • Manage the month end close process and consolidation of Red Wing Shoe Company in accordance with US GAAP and Company policy.  Promotes strong internal controls including the development and maintenance of Company policies and procedures. Ensure timely and accurate delivery of information including analysis of results.
  • Conduct period analysis to verify the integrity and completeness of results, leveraging the Blackline Accounting software, including reconciliations, variance analysis, and maintenance of the close checklist.
  • Oversee fixed assets and associated Capital Policy to ensure accurate recording of assets and related expense.  Partner with FP&A for management of Capital Planning and Tax for proper alignment between book and tax fixed asset records.
  • Oversee the consolidation process, facilitating the inter-company accounting with domestic and international subsidiaries, Treasury, and Tax. Develop  appropriate eliminations to facilitate reporting in multiple hierarchies. 
  • Oversee accounting for Revenue Recognition, collaborate with process owners in customer setup, contracting, billing and logistics to ensure proper cut off and accounting of revenue agreements.
  • Conduct accounting research as needed, ensure documentation of position in technical memos and review research of business unit accounting teams for proper financial presentation.
  • Manage the external audit activities for Red Wing Shoe Company, including coordination with auditors, PBC requests, technical memos, and analysis.  Prepare the Annual Audit Report, including financial statements and notes to the financial statements.  In addition, keep management informed of status and questions.
  • Lead various process improvement initiatives to gain operational efficiencies using Lean methodologies and tools to drive execution of Corporate and team initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Business Technology on financial systems and system utilization.  Evaluate manual and automated financial accounting work processes, systems, and procedures for efficiency of workflow and conformance to US GAAP.  Act as business lead on initiatives to automate manual workflows using ERP and system capabilities. 
  • Lead or participate cross-functionally on projects that deliver BU growth, continuous improvement, or compliance.  Establish project teams and plans, assign responsibilities and facilitate meetings to ensure goal attainment.
  • Lead the Corporate Accounting team of 4-5 employees.  Act as a change agent to refine roles and responsibilities, set expectations, drive team to meet goals and expected deliverables, and evolve to a high performing team.
  • Responsible for establishing and clearly communicating departmental strategy to management team; providing feedback regarding tactical operations for department including goal setting, and managing performance; following organization’s policies and applicable legal requirements; determining and implementing appropriate staffing and customer interaction guidelines for work team(s); and monitoring performance to successful results; communicating strategy to business partners for proper goal alignment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree (B.A/B.S.) in Accounting required from an accredited College or University.
  • CPA preferred.
  • 7-10 years public and private accounting experience.
  • Experience in process improvements and developing systematic process.
  • Strong knowledge of US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and internal controls.
  • Must possess strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently in a pro-active manner, or within a team environment.
  • Demonstrated analytical, quantitative and problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to changing organizational needs.
  • Excellent project management skills, organizational skills, communication skills, the ability to multi-task, and most importantly, the ability to work well in a team
  • Must be able to drive results and manage multiple priorities.
  • Experience with financial systems, Advanced knowledge in Microsoft Excel, basic knowledge in Word and Outlook as well as the ability to optimize business technology tools to improve business processes.
