Job Description

GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB:

This position is responsible for providing technical quality and compliance expertise for manufacturing internal and external suppliers and driving product quality improvements for finished footwear, footwear sub-assemblies, components and raw materials including but not limited to leather.  Additional responsibilities include driving continuous improvements through supplier corrective actions, non-conformance investigations, internal training program improvements, documentation, engineering controls and assessing/assuring the capabilities of new suppliers and materials for product development projects.  

 ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Identify and drive reduction of key sources of product quality variation in the manufacturing factories.

  • Develop and implement engineering process controls on identified key process inputs.

  • Analyze supplier and domestic process measures in collaboration with Quality Technicians and develop/initiate/monitor appropriate corrective actions.

  • Work with internal and external suppliers to assure understanding of quality requirements, identify quality issues and root causes and develop/implement corrective actions.

  • Liaison with strategic sourcing as needed to assure vendor adherence with all quality requirements and develop/maintain supplier material non-conformance records.

  • Identify and implement continuous improvement activities as it relates to product quality.

  • Identify and resolve supplier quality issues associated with defined component and raw material families.

  • Act as a resource to the manufacturing floor to identify and resolve product quality issues.

  • Develop, implement, and maintain quality documentation compliant with ISO-9001 standards including authoring Standard Work procedures, work instructions, and workmanship standards.

  • Characterize and classify leather defects and workmanship.

  • Provide quality system leadership for assigned areas and projects. This includes but is not limited to control plans, process capability studies, visual aids, forms and other associated documents.

  • Develop and maintain prototype, pre-launch and production control plans consistent with the product requirements.

  • Evaluate the amount of variation introduced by measurement systems using Gage R&R Studies (Repeatability and Reproducibility).

  • Conduct audits to insure manufacturing process conformance and develop actions and assure corrective measure implementation.

  • Take corrective and/or preventative action when the product or process does not conform to stated requirements.

  • Create preventative action plans based upon the regular review of quality assurance data to reduce variation and waste.

  • Assure proper disposition of non-conforming product.
 

OTHER DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Obtain necessary information by maintaining knowledge of RWSC’s electronic communication software.

  • Maintain quality service by establishing, following, and enforcing organization quality system standards.

  • Complete other duties as assigned from time to time by your manager.

  • Maintain technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, classes or programs.

Qualifications

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor degree from 4-year college or university in engineering sciences (Mechanical or Chemical strongly preferred) and 5 – 7 years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Fundamental understanding of quality management systems.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Lean-6 Sigma problem solving process, process capability, measurement system analysis, PFMEA’s, Gage R&R, 8-D Corrective Action, DOE, Control Charts, SPC, PPAP, etc.

  • Must have an advanced understanding of statistical principles applied to a manufacturing environment.

  • Ability to lead and execute Lean-6 sigma DMAIC projects.

  • Strong P.C. skills required including but not limited to Minitab, Excel, Word, PowerPoint.

  • Experience in the following area is preferred: ISO-9001.

  • Must be able to collect data manually in a manufacturing environment and conduct follow-up analysis.

  • Must be able to document processes and training content for operators (video, photo, & text-based content).

  • ADDITIONAL DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Supplier management experience.

  • Chemical processing experience desirable.

  • ASQ Six Sigma certification
