GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB:

This position will provide primary support for the management of inventory in the Red Wing Shoe Company manufacturing plants.  Support will include the analysis and reporting of key data, processing of transactions, and improvement of processes related to this functional area.  The individual in this role will be part of a broader Materials Management team with the goal of providing “Best in Class” results for the organization.

Job Description

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide analytical support for implementation and maintenance of Lean Material Flow and Plan For Every Part (PFEP) methodology throughout company owned manufacturing sites.
  • Provide leadership for the cycle count process including performing cycle counts as needed and performing root cause analysis and action planning.  Lead the year-end physical inventory process.
  • Participate in development and provide leadership for execution of effective Kanban systems.
  • Monitor, identify, and reduce or eliminate slow moving/obsolete inventory items.
  • Establish reports and metrics related to effective inventory management.
  • Initiate and lead process improvement projects to increase process robustness and effectiveness.
  • Establish measurements to capture effectiveness of processes and evaluate proposed process changes.
  • Perform daily activities and transactions to ensure effective inventory management procedures are completed.

OTHER DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Communicate and maintain relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Communicate status and relevant information to the appropriate groups to assist with planning.
  • Participate in cross-functional process improvement teams.
  • Uphold Red Wing Shoe Company’s core values.
  • Complete other duties as assigned from time to time by your manager.
  • Maintain technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, classes or programs.
  • Conduct self according to RWSC policies / handbook.

CUSTOMERS (Internal/External):

  • Internal: Brand Merchandise Managers, Demand Planners, Logistics, Plant Managers & Supervisors Schedulers/Buyers/Planners, Customer Experience, Warehouse Managers, Finance, Human Resources, Quality.

  • External: Vendors, suppliers, community

Qualifications

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor degree in Business, Finance or related field and three to six years related experience/training; or equivalent combination of education and experience (inventory, purchasing or Supply Chain Management experience strongly preferred).

ADDITIONAL DESIRABLE QUALIFICAITONS:

  • Basic knowledge of manufacturing and footwear industry
  • Good Listening, Verbal/Written Communication and Collaboration Skills
  • Drive for Results and Superior Execution Skills (attention to detail)
  • Excellent computer skills especially in Microsoft Excel
  • Prior Production Planning experience
  • Exceptional Analytical Skills
  • Strong demonstrated ability to identify problems, develop and implement solutions.
  • Ability to work effectively in stressful situations.

REQUIRED LICENSES, CERTIFICATES OR KNOWLEDGE:

  • ASCM (formerly APICS) certification a plus

 PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Occasional lifting up to 40 pounds
  • Frequent walking, standing, squatting, kneeling, climbing, reaching

 WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Manufacturing environment
  • Ability to work beyond normal business hours as needed to address business demands
