Job Description

The Manufacturing Controller is the Finance partner that collaborates cross functionally to lead and provide decision support for the Manufacturing Managers and Supply Chain Leadership to achieve superior financial results within the RWSC domestic footwear and leather manufacturing facilities.  This position serves as an integral member of the Supply Chain Operations leadership team and is responsible for all the financial functions including cost accounting, financial reporting and analysis, budgeting and forecasting. 

  • Manage Manufacturing accounting processes, as well as deliver timely and accurate monthly financial results, performance metrics, variance analysis including volume / mix, material variances, efficiency, labor rate analysis, productivity, as well as safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
  • Create financial trend analysis and meaningful financial metrics and insights to gauge the financial effectiveness of decisions, actions and current operational performance across all Manufacturing sites.
  • Advise management on the financial impact of various alternatives and recommend preferred course of action around business initiatives and processes.
  • Ensure financial information and commentary is consistent, accurate, and easy to understand for the intended audience that will include Supply Chain leadership, Finance team members, and others.  Identify and communicate areas of concern, prepare root cause analysis and propose counter measures.
  • Oversee productivity and product costing activities for accuracy and consistency. 
  • Lead the annual budget process for all Manufacturing sites.
  • Lead the annual standard cost roll for all manufactured products.
  • Build monthly, quarterly, and annual forecasts supporting the Manufacturing strategy.
  • Support the LEAN cultural change to drive out waste throughout Manufacturing by actively participating on LEAN project teams; making recommendations, reviewing cost reduction opportunities and reporting results.
  • Provide problem resolution leadership to facilitate faster improvements and improved working relationships.
  • Proactively make recommendations and provide oversight to ensure operational and internal controls are effective and financial best practices are driven and shared between Manufacturing sites.
  • Support the capital investment approval and forecasting process.  Research and provide analytical review and support of cost justifications for Manufacturing investments and cost improvement initiatives.  Make recommendations based on analysis. 
  • Collaborate with Business Technology on financial systems, in addition to coordinating with IT to drive solutions for reporting improvements, ERP capability and ensure implementation of requisite system changes to support the business unit’s needs.
  • Lead or participate cross-functionally on projects that deliver BU growth, continuous improvement, or compliance. Establish project teams and plans, assign responsibilities and facilitate meetings to ensure goal attainment.
  • Leverage strengths of the Manufacturing  Finance team, help to clarify roles and responsibilities and develop training in order to maximize and reach optimal individual and organizational goals. Support a high performing culture with an enterprise mindset and best practice focus.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) required, preferably in finance, accounting or a related field from an accredited College or University.  CPA/CMA preferred
  • 10+ years of finance experience within accounting or finance with progressive financial management experience working in an operating Manufacturing  environment or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Cost accounting knowledge, Familiarity with bill of material and product structures, financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting and general business acumen.  Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Strong initiative to explore alternatives, recommend improvements, and implement recommendations.
  • Ability to turn data into information enabling leadership to make sound, data driven business decisions
  • Team oriented player with the ability to work in a matrix organization and effectively work with and communicate with multi-functional groups both within and outside the company to drive strategic objectives.
  • Demonstrated analytical, quantitative and problem solving skills and the ability to adapt to changing organizational needs
  • Knowledge of US GAAP and internal controls
  • Knowledge of production terminology including variance calculations, inventory values, cost of goods produced production scheduling practices, labor efficiency and rate analysis, production line metrics and accounting therein
  • LEAN thinking, nimble to drive change that enables efficiencies and drives growth
  • Excellent oral, written and presentation skills.  Active listening skills are equally important
  • Excellent project management skills, organizational skills, communication skills, the ability to multi-task, learn quickly and meet deadlines, and most importantly, the ability to work well in a team
  • Ability to work collaboratively with all departments and management levels within the company
  • Strong leadership, coaching, interpersonal, analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to influence and drive continuous improvement change and manage multiple priorities
  • Desire to grow in leadership capacity as the Company grows
  • Experience with financial and consolidation systems such as BPC or Hyperion is a plus
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and the ability to extract, analyze and process information.  Basic knowledge in Word and Outlook as well as the ability to optimize business technology tools to improve business processes
