Job Description
The Red Gate Group is seeking an Explosives Engineer to support the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA). This critical role provides Advisory and Assistance Services (A&AS) to the Cooperative Threat Reduction (CTR) Central and Global (CG) Department, supporting global efforts to reduce the threat of Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD).
As a key technical advisor, you will guide the safe and effective elimination of WMD delivery systems, assist in developing international security strategies, and provide expert analysis to senior U.S. Government officials. This role requires a deep understanding of explosives, solid and liquid propellant safety, WMD delivery systems, and secure material transport. The ideal candidate will be a proactive problem solver, capable of delivering high-quality products that support U.S. national security objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Technical Expertise and Program Support:
- Serve as the lead technical advisor to the Government Project Officer, ensuring all project deliverables meet quality and schedule expectations.
- Provide expert guidance on WMD delivery systems, including explosives and propellant safety, handling, and elimination.
- Support the planning and execution of WMD delivery system disposal, including related infrastructure and strategic commodities.
- Analyze and assess advanced propulsion technologies for potential WMD delivery system applications.
- Assist in scoping intelligence requests, analyzing reports, and integrating findings into planning and technology development.
Project Management and Strategic Planning:
- Support the development of project inputs for Program Objective Memorandums (POMs), Annual Reports to Congress, spend plans, and other strategic deliverables.
- Conduct country assessments and validate project metrics to ensure alignment with national security goals.
- Develop and review Statements of Work (SOWs), work breakdown structures, cost estimates, and source selection criteria.
- Assist in creating sustainment and transition plans to ensure international partners maintain capabilities post-project.
Communication and Stakeholder Engagement:
- Prepare and deliver briefings to senior DoD officials on project progress, threats, and strategic recommendations.
- Produce high-quality staff products, including decision papers, action memos, talking points, and technical reports.
- Collaborate with U.S. Government agencies, contractors, and foreign governments to drive project success.
- Support interagency coordination, aligning project objectives with National Strategy, Combatant Command plans, and DoD priorities.
Operational Execution and Travel:
- Provide on-the-ground support by traveling internationally (up to 25% of the time) to monitor project progress and engage with partner nations.
- Develop comprehensive trip reports and assist in coordinating logistical requirements for overseas travel.
- Ensure regulatory compliance and apply best practices to project management throughout the project lifecycle.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) and 10+ years of relevant experience.
- Expertise in missile/rocket propulsion systems and associated threats.
- Experience with explosives, solid and liquid propellant safety, and handling.
- Strong understanding of staffing processes, with the ability to analyze information and develop decision-making products.
- Active TS/SCI .
Desired Qualifications:
- Master’s degree and 15+ years of related experience.
- Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) qualification.
- Familiarity with the Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR) and U.S. government threat reduction programs.
- Experience with project management, acquisition processes, and the development of training materials.
- Proven track record of working with DoD, Department of Energy, U.S. National Laboratories, and international organizations.
- Knowledge of nuclear, chemical, or biological threat reduction and the intersection of safety, security, and safeguards (3S).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools and the ability to work independently.
