Job Description

The Technical Writer provides the DTRA Research and Development (R&D) Directorate with technical writing assistance and support to include assistance in preparing and editing briefings and documentation for required document / briefing reviews in accordance with Public Affairs approval review timelines.  

 

Specific duties include: 

  • This role will support outreach, data management and communication 
  • Provide both routine and on-demand analysis in support of R&D Directorate’s leadership 
  • Author detailed Executive Summaries from technical meetings, working groups, summits, webinars, conferences and provide results to leadership and team members 
  • Research industry, academia and government agencies for technology through technical conferences, consortiums, podcasts and webinars 
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute technology-related outreach engagements, track and forecast engagements, and coordinate outcomes for potential technology investment options 
  • Coordinate engagements with attendee calendars; communicate with appropriate businesses and organizations, and host meetings 
  • Prepare accomplishment write-ups, briefings, quarterly reviews, newsletter and other communication tools 
  • Identify areas for process improvement and assist the implementation of selected actions 

Qualifications

  • Masters or Doctorate degree with 15 years of experience or Bachelors with 20 or more years of experience 
  • 5 years of specialized experience in performing outreach, networking, and/or strategic engagement event planning and execution 
  • 5 years of professional experience in relevant areas 
  • Preferred: 3+ years in a technically focused position 
  • Demonstrated experience in effective written communication 
  • Detailed knowledge of military organizations, operations, and decision-making process 
  • Ability to write technical reports to present to leadership and management 
  • Excellent and effective interpersonal and effective communication skills 
  • Preferably someone that is outgoing and works well independently and or as part of a group 
  • Experience with Microsoft tools (SharePoint, Publisher, PowerPoint, Access, Excel, Word) 
  • Ability to identify problems and solutions and effectively communicate with client 
  • Support development and execution of government policies, procedures, and guidance 
  • Ability to manage time and resources
