This role gives an emphasis on the design and implementation of multi-dimensional mental assessments, fostering and monitoring behavioral strategies, delivery of tailored mental training, and coordination of mental support to create a competitive advantage for Red Bull elite athletes. 

Your responsibilities include analyzing key cognitive and affective action-regulation processes, applying mental profiling methods to identify individual strengths and areas for improvement, and translating performance and behaviour control outcomes into specific action situations, for example to enhance performance under pressure.

Another important part of your role is coordinating mental performance support in alignment with existing support structures.

You work closely with coaching staff, physical performance and sport science experts, as well as physiotherapists, to ensure that mental performance strategies are integrated into training and can be applied seamlessly in competition environments.

In addition, you foster relationships and collaboration with external partners in the areas of technological advancement and research to strengthen knowledge transfer, innovation, and the practical application of insights.

A crucial aspect of this role is your commitment to continuous exploration, experimentation, innovation, and alignment of mental performance approaches. In doing so, you help shape and align cutting-edge mental performance methodologies across a global high-performance ecosystem and sports performance projects.

Job Description

IN A NUTSHELL

Driving the Sport-Performance Psychology domain in the APC in Salzburg and taking care for the alignment with the Mental Performance team in LA, in regard to strategical, developmental, methodological, organisational, and knowledge management aspects. Fostering the domain’s development while harmonizing priorities, methodological strategies, organizational processes, and knowledge management to enrich and enlarge Red Bull’s global high-performance ecosystem.

Conduct of comprehensive assessments of athletes’ mental performance capabilities, including mental skills, executive functioning, cognitive and affective processes, as well as self-regulation techniques, key mental characteristics such as mental robustness, stress and coping style, performance mindset, and behavioural performance routines. Drawing on these insights, the compilation of efficient individualized interventional strategies comprising advanced mental skills training and performance rehearsal. Leverage state-of-the-art technologies including immersive virtual environments, mental simulation, neurocognitive conditioning, and other innovative performance enhancement tools to optimize execution, adaptability, and performance under pressure.

Design, organization, and provision of knowledge transfer initiatives for athletes and multidisciplinary support teams through both on-site and remote formats. Furthermore, contribution to the evolution of the APC knowledge management system by developing educational resources, applied methodologies, and best-practice content that strengthens capability development across the global Red Bull performance community.

Cultivation of relationships and collaboration with external partners in terms of an exchange of information and transfer of knowledge, technological and methodological advancements, research for strengthening insights and progress in practical approaches.

Working closely with the global Mental Performance team, you champion the continuous development, implementation, and harmonization of mental performance philosophies, methodologies, and intervention strategies across Red Bull’s sports performance projects, ensuring consistency while fostering innovation and excellence.

In parallel, the establishment and coordination of a trusted network of qualified mental health professionals, ensuring appropriate referral pathways and integrated psychological care is needed.

Qualifications

Master’s degree (or higher) in Sport Psychology/Performance Psychology or a related field

Extensive experience working with elite athletes across individual and team sports (7+ years).

Exceptional experience and proven track record in individual and team consultations of international athletes from a variety of sports within the field of mental performance or sport psychology.

Proven experience in the coordination of a team of mental performance experts and specialists in performance behaviour and lifestyle as well as external collaborations in this field.

Experience in working effectively within interdisciplinary performance environments.

Crucial knowledge in action-regulaton concepts with an emphasis on motor-behavior performance and performance-behavior control in sports.

Strong understanding of the organizational structure and key processes in high-performance sport and elite athlete demands in a broad range of sports and competitive situations.

Knowledge in the design, application, and interpretation of multi-dimensional, multi-method assessment strategies including relevant tests and diagnostic tools in particular in terms of sport-specific situations and demands.

Ability to translate theory and empirical based insights into applicable strategies in specific practical situations in sports, in particular in competitive situations.

Strong communication, inter-personal skills, analytical competencies, and cooperative organisational behaviour.

Personal experience as an athlete or coach in competitive/elite sports preferred.

Knowledge and competencies for the development and delivery of mental performance strategies for peak performance.

Curiosity for, good understanding and basic experience with new technologies.

Interest in exploration and innovation in performance environments.

High level of English Proficiency (written and verbal), German and/or additional languages are a plus

Additional Information

Due to legal reasons we are obliged to disclose the minimum salary according to the collective agreement for this position (EUR 3.560). However, our attractive compensation package is based on market-oriented salaries and is therefore significantly above the stated minimum salary.
