Our client is an independent Italian non-profit association of social utility for international cooperation.In Kenya they are seeking a very competent Nurse to join their team.

JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible in caring of pregnant women, performing basic ultrasound examinations during antenatal care visits. This includes informing mothers the proper way of caring for themselves during and after pregnancy and the steps of caring for their new born, performing physical exams, collecting and documenting data, and undertaking appropriate interventions.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Clinical

• Participate in the specific training and best practice on pregnancy and utilization of ultrasound machinery, as per schedule agreed;
• Perform ultrasound examinations in the Primary Healthcare facilities as per timetable provided, specifically: receive and examine all patients, record their details, medical information and condition; assess the condition of mother during their pregnancy; make diagnosis and assessment about the mother’s condition to identify high risk pregnancies;
• Ensure a cohesive and collaborative approach to ensure a high-quality service delivery at all times;
• Train mothers on continued care after delivery;
• Comply with health and safety and infection control policies and ensure that staff, patients and visitors are appropriately informed and advised;
• Maintain up-to-date and accurate documentation/records of patients and activities are securely handled at the clinics.

• Be responsible for the accurate documentation and care of patients’ records;
• Assist in ensuring the availability of resources for patient care;

• Oversee and ensure compliance and adherence with procedures to fulfil any legislative and/or administrative requirements with respect to infection prevention and control, health and safety measures and emergency procedures.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Level of Education

Secondary School Education.

Specialized Training/Professional Qualifications

Qualifications in midwifery;

Current professional registration with an appropriate and recognized authority.

Clinical experience in antenatal, labour, postnatal care;

Good spoken and written English and Kiswahili.

Relevant Job Experience

At least two (2) years’ experience in an antenatal care position;

Previous experience in informal settlements and in healthcare interventions at the community level;

Previous knowledge of obstetric ultrasound is a plus.

AUTHORITY/DECISION MAKING

Work within scope and strict adherence to code of professional practice where work is managed rather than supervised in relation to assessing, monitoring, evaluating and interpreting patients’ condition and effectiveness of their care programmes.

SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS

This position may expose the incumbent to hazards from exposure to chemicals and infectious diseases, anesthetic gases and drugs.  The use of disinfecting and sterilizing agents may cause damage to skin and respiratory system. The incumbent must follow strict, standardized guidelines to guard against diseases and other dangers.

Considerable time will be spent bending, stretching and standing and assisting in patient transfers, so there is need to follow proper body mechanics to guard against injury.

The candidate will be working in healthcare facilities throughout the week, being exposed to security risks and a difficult environment.
