We are looking for a Deputy News Editor to join The Express.

This is a fantastic opportunity to play a vital role in our newsroom. The ideal candidate will have a strong and proven track record in journalism producing exclusives for national papers and whilst you will be working towards our Digital First Strategy, you will ideally have experience in print too.

You will be full of ideas for agenda-setting stories and instinctively know how to drive the key stories forwards.

We’re looking for fresh ideas and new perspectives from people from a wide range of backgrounds, and we want you to tell us the stories you believe are important from our many communities so we can continue to diversify our content.

We are happy to consider applications on a flexible working basis, and will always aim to accommodate requests where possible.

This role is home and hub based linked to our London Hub, with an expectation to work from the Hub 3 days per week. Therefore, you must be based in or around London to be considered.

Job Description

What will the role involve?

You will work with the news desk and reporters to generate traffic-driving ideas and exclusive stories while helping to guide our team of reporters to cover the stories that matter - from live breaking news to long investigative features and human interest tales.

Finding and developing stories that will appeal to Express readers across print and digital, you will play a key role in a major national news desk, with a 24/7 digital operation, editing and managing copy to tight deadlines ensuring accuracy.

Qualifications

Who are we looking for?

An experienced journalist with your NCTJ or equivalent qualification and exceptional media law knowledge, you have a strong track record of news editing experience at a national title. You will be full of ideas for agenda-setting stories and instinctively know how to drive the key stories forwards.

You have first rate communication skills, both written and verbal, a strong understanding of the unique nature of digital news along with a proven love of news and a flair for writing attention grabbing headlines.
