Company Description
We are looking for a Trends Writer at BristolLive aimed at producing content for under-35s. You’ll be working to provide relevant, informative and entertaining content for our under-35 audience.
The role requires someone adept at spotting national trending content that will resonate with our audience via social media and search and produce stories quickly and accurately so we can publish them in a timely fashion.
Ideally, you will have a background in journalism, strong knowledge of various social media platforms and experience in SEO techniques, tools and best practice. Therefore you will need to have trends writing experience to be considered suitable for this position.
This role is home and hub-based linked to our Bristol Hub, we are therefore open to candidates based in and around Bristol.
Job Description
What will the role involve?
You will maximise traffic opportunities by responding to breaking news and trending topics with quick, accurate and well-written copy, whilst coming up with original ideas every day on how to add value to the ongoing coverage of stories our 18-35 audience cares about.
This role will involve writing about multiple topics and stories across the day, influenced by where the audience opportunities lie while using audience tools to find content opportunities around trending topics and come up with the best angle.
You will maintain and promote our content by assisting with live blogging, podcasting, video and other formats.

Who are we looking for?
- Source, create, publish and share search and trending content
- Write in an engaging and easy-to-access style to help answer questions that readers are seeking answers for
- Be creative with a stream of original ideas for content that readers will love
- Have a deep understanding of how people behave on social and use that to create content ideas
- Use search tools to research and understand the topics which people are searching for
- Write content responsively, with output driven by digital analytics and audience trends on search and social platforms
- Identify topics which brands can legitimately become an authority in for younger audiences
- Work as part of a team generating SEO content as part of big event coverage
- Work at speed to respond to trending topics and ensure we are publishing in an accurate and timely fashion
- NCTJ or equivalent qualification
