We are looking for an Audience Sports Writer who will also be focussing on the exciting journey at Wrexham AFC to join the team where you will be responsible for finding and reporting on the stories and issues which matter to football fans, in a way which ensures as many people as possible can access and respond to our work.
You’ll be delivering exclusives, agenda-setting analysis and finding the biggest and best stories about Wrexham which engage as many readers as possible and shed new light on the goings on at the Racecourse Ground to fans hungry for the latest news.
We’re looking for fresh ideas and new perspectives from people from a wide range of backgrounds, and we want you to tell us the stories you believe are important from our many communities so we can continue to diversify our content.

Job Description
What will the role involve?
This role exists to find and report on Wrexham AFC and create sports content designed to reach and engage with the largest possible audience across our Reach regional and US sports portfolio. The responsibilities include covering Wrexham AFC stories and sport trending topics that matter to fans in a way that ensures as many people as possible discover and respond to our work.
You will tap into the huge global potential of Wrexham AFC, including showbiz and finance content around the club’s Hollywood owners that appeals to a wide audience outside of traditional football fans, as well as be the public face of our Wrexham coverage including in front of the camera and behind the microphone as and when required.
Qualifications
Who are we looking for?
- NCTJ or equivalent journalism degree and knowledge of media law
- Excellent knowledge of football, Wrexham AFC and the football league, with good experience of covering a professional club
- A passion for digital storytelling in football journalism
- Have a proven track record of finding and reporting on the stories and issues which matter to football fans in a way which ensures as many people as possible find, discover and engage with our work
- A strong people person who can develop and build contacts and knows the right questions to ask to get the best stories
- A creative individual who can deliver constant flow of story ideas
- Strong digital publishing skills including working a CMS, shooting video, taking pictures
- Full clean driving licence preferable
