We are looking for an experienced Content Editor to join our exciting digital newsroom at ChronicleLive, based in our busy hub in the heart of Newcastle city centre. 

You will manage a team of reporters, overseeing their content production for our web, app and social media audiences. You will play a key role in driving traffic to our brands ensuring our content continues to inform readers about the latest news in their communities.

We’re looking for fresh ideas and new perspectives from people from a wide range of backgrounds, and we want you to tell us the stories you believe are important from our many communities so we can continue to diversify our content.

This is a maternity cover, fixed term contract role, initially for 9 months.

This role is home and hub based linked to our Newcastle Hub. We are therefore open to candidates based in and around Newcastle or anywhere in the North East.

Job Description

What will the role involve?

You will support and brief your team of reporters to deliver great content, including words, pictures, video, data and interactives, ensuring we get the highest possible levels of audience engagement. You will organise and manage the publishing of fresh, engaging, accurate and legally sound news content. Live coverage is a vital part of our newsrooms, so you will use your excellent news sense to know when to launch live blogs for big stories and how to maintain momentum as readers flock to our sites.

You will be a hands-on people manager, supporting and inspiring your team to pitch and write engagement stories. You will conduct regular 1:1s to ensure they are developing as journalists. You will oversee our websites and social media channels, helping to develop our social strategy. You will play a crucial role in developing our Customer Value Strategy, focusing on newsletter and looking for opportunities to maximise our audience loyalty.

Qualifications

Who are we looking for?

You are an experienced senior journalist with your Senior NCTJ/NQJ Level 6 journalism (or in house equivalent) qualification and extensive media law knowledge. You have a proven track record of writing and editing digital news content in a fast paced newsroom environment. You are a first class writer and storyteller with a thorough understanding of our news brands and audience engagement strategies. You have a good understanding of SEO, search, social and digital audience behaviour. 

You are social media savvy and have experience utilising various social platforms including but not limited to Facebook, X and Instagram. Ideally you have prior people management experience, or you are keen to step up into a management role, utilising your communication, motivation and people skills to do so. You have excellent local knowledge and can use this to inform your content decisions.
