It is a fantastic time to join Reach PLC, as we are currently looking for a talented and experienced Regional Sports sub-editor/writer to join us, on a 10-month fixed term contract.
Your work will include production duties on a series of daily and/or clusters of weekly titles alongside writing daily football content on a selection of football league clubs. Work will vary between writing and subbing copy, depending on the day’s requirements. As this role has a Sports specialism, previous work in Sport would be ideal.
We are looking for someone with previous experience in sports writing, sub editing and proofing pages, with excellent multi tasking and time management skills. You will have a close working relationship with the Print Editor and are expected to develop positive relationships across departments including content teams, Newspaper Sales, Commercial and Marketing.

Job Description
What will the role involve?
You will be responsible for editing copy to fit allocated space and fact-checking copy to ensure accuracy at all times. You will write correct and effective headlines, always adhering to Reach’s branding and house style rules.
You will handle Sports stories and updates with ease, updating copy quickly and accurately. You will also make sure all copy is legally sound and meets IPSO guidelines and Reach’s standards. This position will involve weekend working so a flexible approach is required.
You will be responsible for writing stories on a selection of football league clubs and general sports content, including grassroots.
Qualifications
Who are we looking for?
An experienced journalist with your NCTJ or equivalent qualification and media law knowledge, you will have a depth of experience in Sports journalism, at a national or large regional title. You will have extensive knowledge of the intricacies of print news, with a proven track record of writing and sub editing for print titles.
You have the knowledge and skill to judge if a copy needs to be edited and when required, the ability to rewrite accurate copy quickly and efficiently. You can write accurate, hard-hitting and entertaining headlines, always able to meet the very high standards Reach requires.
