We have an exciting opportunity for an Audience Writer to join our team in the South West.
You will be covering all the biggest national, entertainment, television, celebrity, trending and consumer opportunities that are relevant to or of interest to readers on the patch and beyond
You will produce content for our six key local brands, supporting each title to ensure audience targets are delivered every month, prioritising the stories of most interest to the biggest potential audience.
We’re looking for fresh ideas and new perspectives from people from a wide range of backgrounds. We are looking for candidates who understand the issues that are important to our region’s very many different communities so we can continue to really diversify our content.

This role is home based and we are therefore open to candidates based across the UK, however being based in the South West is highly desirable.
Job Description
What will the role involve?
You will play a key role within the South West’s ‘network newsroom’ team, producing coverage of the biggest national, entertainment, television, celebrity and trending opportunities that are relevant to or of interest to readers on the patch and beyond. You will be producing quick, accurate and useful reports, live blogs and videos for all titles on patch, prioritising those that will reach the largest audience and including producing affiliate content to drive further revenue for the business.
You will also work to ensure content is accurate, in line with all titles’ brand values, engages readers and reaches as many people as possible as quickly as possible whilst being adaptable and flexible at all times, assisting other teams where required and working in flexible weekday shifts dictated by audience demands, and in weekend shifts where required.
Qualifications
Who are we looking for?
Essential:
- An NCTJ (or equivalent) qualification with in depth knowledge of media law is essential
- A proven track record of creating and publishing digital content in a fast-paced environment is essential
- Knowledge of the South West is essential
- Social Media skills
- Video creation and editing skills
Desirable:
- Being based in and having the ability to travel where the story is in the South West is highly desirable
- Previous experience working a CMS, shooting video and taking pictures for stories is desirable
