We are looking for a Deputy Features and Lifestyle Editor to join us at Express Online. Concentrating on US content, this is a fantastic opportunity to play a vital role in our newsroom and US expansion. As the Deputy Features and Lifestyle Editor you will have a proven track record in journalism producing exciting content and exclusives for market leading publications.
Reach Plc is the UK’s largest commercial news publisher. We’re home to more than 130 trusted brands, from national titles like the Mirror, Express, Daily Record and Daily Star, to local brands like MyLondon, BelfastLive and the Manchester Evening News.
Since the start of 2023, we have been building out our US operation, headquartered at 200 Liberty St, New York. We’ve launched three standalone brands in the Mirror US, Express US and the Irish Star, covering news, sport, entertainment, politics and lifestyle - all targeted at US audiences.
We’re now entering a period of rapid growth, and are looking to add ambitious and dynamic talent to our teams.

This role is an on-site position based in our New York office, we are therefore open to candidates based in or who are commutable to New York City.

Job Description
What will the role involve?
You will work with the news desk and reporters to generate traffic-driving ideas and exclusive US focussed lifestyle stories, while helping to guide our team of reporters to cover the stories that our readers want to see.
Finding and developing stories centred around the US that will appeal to Express readers, you will play a key role in a major national news desk, with a 24/7 digital operation, editing and managing copy to tight deadlines and ensuring accuracy.
Qualifications
Who are we looking for?
As an experienced journalist you will have a strong track record of features and lifestyle experience at a leading publication. You will be full of ideas for agenda-setting US focussed stories and instinctively know how to drive these for maximum audience engagement.. You will have a good understanding of media law gained from experience in the industry.
You have first rate communication skills, both written and verbal, a strong understanding of the unique nature of digital news along with a proven love of news and a flair for writing attention grabbing headlines. Previous experience of leading and managing a team in a fast-paced environment is also essential.
