Ravinia, North America's oldest music festival, stands today as its most musically diverse, presenting over 140 different events throughout the summer. These concerts run the gambit from Yo-Yo Ma to John Legend to the annual summer residency of the world renowned, The Chicago Symphony Orchestra.

The 36-acre park is nestled in a gently wooded area that makes it an enchanting place to experience music. Guests can bring their own picnics or eat at one of the park restaurants.

Throughout the school year and summer, Ravinia's Reach*Teach*Play programs provide music education and performances to children, families, and community members who otherwise would not be able to have these opportunities. As a nonprofit organization, Ravinia strives to ensure that access to music education and great musical experiences remain accessible to all.

Job Description

The Reach*Teach*Play internship offers an opportunity to gain experience in the fields of community engagement, music education programming, and event coordination for a non-profit arts organization. The primary responsibility of the Reach*Teach*Play Intern is to assist with the administrative duties, coordination and implementation of various education initiatives. Interns will work under the supervision of the department Operations Manager and Associate Directors.

Duties and Responsibilities

Music Discovery Performances at Ravinia

  • Coordinate logistics for eight days of student performances at Ravinia and assist with on-site event set-up and execution.

Opportunity Lawn Pass Program

  • Coordinate the distribution of lawn passes to over 100 social service and nonprofit organizations: process and track program applications, and generate reports.
  • Coordinate visits to Ravinia by program participants (some evening and weekends required) and provide customer service to program participants.

KidsLawn

  • Coordinate set-up/break-down and on-site operation of outdoor children’s activities.
  • Conduct regular inventory of program supplies and reorder items when necessary.
  • Recruit and schedule volunteers.

Teacher Institute

  • Assist with the 3-day teacher training conference.
  • Prepare event plans and logistical documents.
  • Secure workshop materials for various music education presentations.

Qualifications

Our ideal candidate will possess the following characteristics:

  • Strong interest in community development and education.
  • Interest in, and knowledge of music
  • Diligent work ethic
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word)

Education

  • High School diploma or equivalent. At least two years of college experience preferred.
  • Coursework in Music Education, Arts Administration or Communications preferred.

Additional Information

Work Environment:

  • Must be available some evenings and weekends (20+ hours per week) during the summer season, at Ravinia with occasional offsite duties.
  • Begin on Monday, May 7 and work through Friday, August 17.
  • Ability to lift at least 25 lbs

Compensation:

  • Hourly wage based on experience
  • May be able to use for class credit
