RareCyte is a privately funded commercial stage life science company focused on the development of proprietary technology to detect, analyze and retrieve individual rare cells through a simple blood sample. Initial applications include oncology, prenatal diagnostics and infectious disease. Our technology platform has the potential to become the standard of care in these areas and a critical tool for the advancement of cancer, immunology and rare cell research. We are seeking talented individuals to join our team. The Research Associate will support this effort by developing assays and reagents for diagnostic applications.
Job Description
Responsibilities:
- Develop and perform assays for molecular characterization of rare cells (including single cells) from human blood including DNA amplification, Sequencing and Immunofluorescence detection of proteins
- Prepare samples using RareCyte’s density-based separation AccuCyte technology
- Perform antibody staining of slides on automated slide stainers
- Perform automated microscopic scanning of stained samples
- Perform tissue culture and bank cell lines
- Interact with biology and engineering teams to meet project goals in a fast-paced environment
- Support projects by maintaining laboratory supplies
- Support daily laboratory operations by coordinating laboratory equipment calibration and maintenance
- Coordinate laboratory safety and blood borne pathogen training for RareCyte employees
- Serve on RareCyte’s Safety committee as the laboratory representative
- Write standard operating procedures (SOP’s) for method development, storing samples, preparing reagents and solutions, and maintaining laboratory equipment
- Document results in laboratory notebook, written reports and presentations
- Analyze, interpret and present results to the project team
- Actively participate in scientific applications of RareCyte technology at level appropriate to experience
Qualifications
- BS, MS or equivalent in biology, chemistry or a related field with emphasis in molecular biology
- At least 5 years’ industrial or academic laboratory experience
- Hands-on experience in developing assays to characterize DNA and/or RNA from single cells
- Experience in molecular and cell biology techniques, including PCR, RT-PCR, FISH, immunofluorescence microscopy, tissue culture and banking cell lines
- Familiarity with antibody based assays
- Familiarity with biostatistics
- Experience handling biohazardous materials
- DNA sequencing experience desired
- Some immunology experience desired
- Strong presentation and writing skills
