Job Description

Key responsibilities, tasks & important relations

To add one Lead Automation Engineer in Power Systems to support High voltage design and detailed engineering of transmission, distribution and offshore / onshore substation engineering activities for Energy Systems group of Ramboll Energy division, Chennai

As our new SCADA/ICS/DCS and network specialist, you will participate in a wide range of complex national and international projects with a strong focus on substations and TSO interfaces. You will contribute your expertise in SCADA system design, substation automation, network architecture, and cyber security across projects related to FACTS, HVDC, hydrogen infrastructure, and data centers. The scope of work spans from early concept development and interface definition with TSOs through specification, detailed design, procurement, implementation, and commissioning. Projects are delivered in close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams in a highly professional and continuously developing environment alongside experienced colleagues.

Responsibilities & tasks

  • Development of initial concepts, including concept overview, hardware selection, protocol selection, cost estimates, and tender materials for SCADA and network solutions
  • Design of SCADA systems used for tenders
  • Design of network solutions and integration with other systems
  • Implementation and advisory on cyber security measures in SCADA and network design
  • Interface management
  • Conducting supervision and commissioning
  • Preparing man-hour estimation for CTR preparation and review of tender documents.
  • Preparation and evaluation of general project documentation.
  • Coordination and follow up of packages with system Vendor.
  • Coordination with Transmission System Owner and substation owner / contractor, issue and follow up of CSS questionnaire.
  • Review / Preparation and evaluation of general project documentation in addition to engineering deliverables.
  • Handling multi discipline task-oriented projects.
  • Handling and guiding junior engineers / designers and draughtsman.

  • HOD/Team Lead/Lead Engineer/Sr. Engineer & team
  • Works with other engineers in the project team of REN EEC and DK (or other Ramboll countries) team
  • Works with HV Engineering counterparts in other REN offices

Qualifications

Qualifications & Experience

  • Engineer with experience in SCADA, SRO, and network systems, including IEC 61850–based substation automation
  • Experience applying relevant standards and legislation within SCADA/ICS/DCS and networks, including IEC 62443, NIS2, IEC 61508, ISO/IEC 27001, and related frameworks
  • Practical experience with converter technologies such as STATCOM, HVDC (including rectifier and inverter stations), and other power electronics–based systems
  • Strong background in network principles and cyber security for critical infrastructure
  • Experience with tendering processes, specifications, and technical evaluations
  • Relevant professional experience from consulting, utilities, OEMs, or system suppliers is an advantage
  • Fluent in English; experience working in European, multilingual project environments (additional European languages are an advantage)
  • Master/Bachelor of Electrical or Automation or Instrumentation or Control Engineering recognized University
  • Should have the experience of 15 to 20 years
  • Experience of at least 3 years in the consulting firm is a must.
  • Experience in working on US and European projects preferred.
  • Experienced in performing technical, economic and environmental studies
  • Excellent in English skills oral and written is very important and a requirement
  • Skilled user of Microsoft office – Excel, Word
