Job Description
Job Location - Noida/Gurugram/Mumbai, India
The role combines technical leadership, quality assurance, business development, client management, team leadership and mentorship, and the promotion of Ramboll’s values and professional standards across projects and teams.
Key responsibilities
Project delivery and technical leadership
- Lead and manage complex ESIA projects across sectors (e.g., infrastructure, energy, mining, transport, water).
- Plan, undertake and quality assure biodiversity baseline studies, impact assessments, mitigation and management plans, stakeholder engagement, grievance mechanisms, and monitoring programs.
- Lead and/or support biodiversity baseline studies and field surveys (fauna, flora, habitats) across project sites in India.
- Design and implement survey programs using standard methods (camera trapping, point counts, transects, quadrats, aquatic sampling, vegetation mapping).
- Identify species and habitats; assess conservation status using national lists and IUCN Red List; prepare species accounts.
- Produce and review technical biodiversity chapters for Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIA) and standalone Biodiversity Impact Assessments (BIA).
- Apply impact assessment methods and the mitigation hierarchy (avoidance, minimization, restoration, offset) and develop Biodiversity Management Plans (BMPs), Habitat Restoration Plans and offset proposals where required.
- Conduct field-based monitoring and compliance audits, including biodiversity monitoring protocols and reporting.
- Use GIS and spatial analysis (ArcGIS/QGIS) to map habitats, protected areas, corridors and sensitive receptors; integrate spatial outputs into reports.
- Support permitting and clearance processes (forest/wildlife/biological diversity clearances) and prepare documentation for regulators and clients.
- Liaise with stakeholders — local communities, government agencies, NGOs, and multidisciplinary project teams — and contribute to stakeholder consultations.
- Contribute to client meetings, deliver presentations, and provide training and capacity building for project teams and stakeholders.
- Lead, manage and deliver general ESIA, ESDD and other ESG related projects as Project Manager as well as technical expert
- Ensure quality control of data, analyses and deliverables; adhere to health, safety and environmental policies during fieldwork.
- Advise on environmental and social risk management for sustainable finance transactions, including preparation of E&S documentation for lenders, development of ESAPs, and monitoring arrangements.
Standards, guidance and technical quality
- Ensure technical quality, consistency and compliance with international E&S standards, guidance notes and best practice.
- Provide internal technical review and quality control of deliverables (reports, inputs to ESIA, due diligence reports, E&S clauses for contracts, monitoring templates).
- Develop and maintain technical tools, templates, and procedures to support consistent high quality delivery.
Advisory & thought leadership
- Provide strategic ESG advisory to clients on topics such as ESG integration, climate risk and adaptation, biodiversity/net gain, human rights, labour and community issues, and circular economy considerations.
- Keep abreast of evolving international standards, laws, sustainable finance requirements, regulatory developments, and market trends; translate these into client facing advisory and internal guidance.
- Represent Ramboll in stakeholder fora, industry working groups and conferences; author thought leadership pieces and contribute to proposals.
Business development & client management
- Lead pursuit and preparation of proposals, technical approaches and bids for E&S and sustainable finance advisory services.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships, act as a trusted advisor, and secure repeat business.
- Support pricing, scoping and resourcing of complex assignments.
Team leadership, capacity building & culture
- Manage and mentor senior and mid level E&S staff, allocate work, conduct performance reviews and foster professional development.
- Promote collaborative, inclusive team culture aligned with Ramboll values (integrity, quality, safety, sustainability, respect).
- Provide coaching on stakeholder engagement, client management and technical delivery
Qualifications

- Master’s degree in Ecology, Biodiversity, Environmental Science, Forestry, Zoology, Botany or related field. Strong undergraduate degree acceptable with exceptional experience.
- Minimum 10 years’ professional experience in biodiversity surveys and impact assessment work in India (field and desk-based).
- Strong knowledge of international standards and frameworks including IFC Performance Standards, World Bank E&S policies, Equator Principles, EBRD requirements, UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, and relevant national requirements.
- Proven track record of advising on E&S aspects of project finance / sustainable finance transactions and preparing lender grade documentation.
- Excellent client engagement and business development experience; proven ability to win and manage complex assignments.
- Strong project and team management skills, including staff development experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to produce high quality technical reports and present to senior clients and stakeholders.
- Demonstrated thought leadership (publications, conference presentations, working group participation) is an advantage.
- Ability and willingness to travel as required.
