The Aviation Department in Ramboll Denmark is looking for an experienced and ambitious Senior/Chief Design Manager for our increasing portfolio of airfield projects. Are you our new Design Manager for airfield projects in Denmark and abroad? Click the apply-button to join us and close the gap to a sustainable future!

You will become part of our Aviation team
As our new Senior/Chief Design Manager, you will become part of a dedicated international aviation team. We work primarily within the fields of planning, design and maintenance of airside infrastructure in Denmark and internationally. While the position and the hiring department is located in Copenhagen we collaborate with our aviation colleagues across our geographies in Europe, North America, India and Southeast Asia. You will hence become part of a diverse, international team, that works on airport projects throughout the full project cycle – from planning, through concept and detailed design to construction. Your future colleagues have strong experience within Master Planning, Geometric Design, Pavement Design, AGL Design, preparation of tender documents, construction supervision and maintenance of airside assets.

Your most important tasks and responsibilities will be:

  • Oversee and approve technical design work for airfield projects (taxiways, runways, stands, geometry, pavements, drainage, lighting, signage, grading, markings), ensuring designs meet regulatory standards, client requirements and Ramboll’s technical quality criteria throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Lead multidisciplinary design teams and coordinate external consultants, contractors and specialist suppliers to deliver technically robust, constructible and cost‑efficient solutions on schedule and within budget.
  • Establish and enforce technical governance, quality assurance and risk-management processes (design reviews, checks, verification, peer reviews), and resolve complex technical issues and design conflicts.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of aviation regulations, ICAO/EASA/CAA guidance, industry best practice and emerging technologies; translate this into design standards, templates and client advisories.
  • Represent Ramboll in technical client meetings, regulatory consultations and design approvals; support business development by contributing technical input to proposals, bids and feasibility studies.

About you

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree within engineering, with a focus on civil works or similar
  • 10+ years of experience with airfield projects
  • 5+ years of experience as Design Manager
  • Profound knowledge of airfield projects and/or airfield operations
  • Experience with complex multidisciplinary airfield projects
  • Proactive and dedicated
  • Excellent communication skills – English at a professional level is required; additional language, including Danish, skills are a plus.

To succeed in the position, it is important that you are a good communicator, and that you handle different stakeholders better than most. Moreover, it is paramount that you work independently, with enthusiasm and proactivity. It is expected that you will actively contribute to the further development of the department through guiding the less experienced colleagues as well as through actively seeking out new projects through dialogue with Clients and your network.

The position is in Copenhagen, which consistently tops the liveable city rankings and has recently for a second year in a row been named the most liveable city in the world by Economist Intelligence Unit.
