Job Description

Our Greyhounds as Pets (GAP) team in Southern River location is looking for a GAP officer to facilitate the rehoming of retired greyhounds and the positive branding & portrayal of GAP.

Reporting to the GAP Program Manager, this position will be managing all aspects of the foster and adoption process. Moreover, you will be responsible for:

  • Coordinating and managing contact with prospective foster carers and adopters and those with greyhounds on a foster-to-adopt arrangement
  • Working with other GAP officers, Animal Behaviourists and GAP Program Manager to facilitate transition to foster and adoption
  • Identifying areas for development in the foster and adoption processes and other GAP programs
  • When required monitor social media and respond appropriately, book vet appointments and transfer greyhounds to vets and return to GAP
  • Assess greyhound health prior to entering foster, foster to adopt or adoption care and report any change to the Program Manage
  • Assist in the running of other GAP Programs as directed
  • Write dog profiles for dogs ready for rehoming, photograph or video greyhounds and post profiles to GAP social media channels and website as required Responsible for monthly KPI reporting and maintaining accurate records in ASM, databases
  • Manage all aspects of the TAFE program involving greyhounds, assist with volunteer program and volunteers handling greyhounds
  • Process microchip registrations and changes as required and carry out all duties in accordance with OSH procedures and relevant policies
  • Liaise with Stewards, through GAP Program Manager if required regarding paperwork and welfare
  • Undertaking general office duties and maintaining the GAP databases including but not limited to Shelter Manager and Green Collar database.
  • Manage follow-ups with foster, foster to adopt and adopters, respond to phone enquiries relating to dogs in foster to adopt or adoption
  • Liaise with trainers for pre assessments through GAP programme when required
  • Attend and assist at events as required, to showcase and generate interest in foster and adoptions – may involve weekend, evening  or public holiday work
  • Monitor stock levels of beds, leads, collars muzzles, veterinary health products and food etc. and order as required
  • Monitor GAP emergency phone as required and ensure GAP van is well maintained and road worthy

Qualifications

Ideally to be successful in this role you will need: 

  • Experience handling dogs
  • Demonstrated excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Demonstrated high level teamwork and ability to work independently
  • Well-developed computer literacy skills within the Microsoft Office/Windows Environment
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in the execution of work
  • Current ‘C’ class driver’s licence
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver outcomes on time and within budget
  • Prepared to work outside normal business days/hours as required
  • Knowledge and understanding of greyhound racing industry, beneficial to assist organisational requirements
  • Ability to develop, maintain and update social media desirable
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite – Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator desirable
  • Knowledge about  greyhounds, desirable
  • Veterinary nurse qualifications/experience desirable but not essential
