Job Description

The Role

Maintain and uphold fair thoroughbred racing in Western Australia and to supervise and enforce the industry’s probity and integrity standards as empowered by the Australian Rules of Racing.

Duties include:

  • Chair provincial and country meetings and attend inquiries into matters arising from races held, drug testing, betting disputes and inquiries into licensed persons conduct on-course
  •  Conduct stable inspections on a regular basis to ensure security measures are in place and check stable return records
  • Review race patrol films to ensure that all races are fun fairly and to take appropriate action if any inconsistencies foun
  • Attend Stewards’ inquiries and present oral evidence
  • Prepare speed charts for metropolitan / provincial / country race meetings
  •  Provide media interviews and comments on relevant racing matters as direct by the Chief Steward

Qualifications

About You 

  • Extensive experience in thoroughbred racing, administration, and the rules of racing
  • Knowledge of current legislation e.g. Rules of Racing, Racing Penalties Appeal Tribunal Act and Betting Control Act
  • Practical and theoretical knowledge of horses
  • Well-developed knowledge of procedural fairness and natural justice
  • Sound computer literacy skills – Microsoft Office / Windows environment
  • Current Senior First Aid certificate
  • Current “C” class drivers’ licence
  • Completion of a tertiary qualification and / or relevant experience
