Position Location - Downtown Chicago - Hybrid
RRD is seeking a Senior Director, International Tax to play a pivotal role in shaping our global tax strategy during a period of transformative growth. Reporting to the SVP, Global Head of Tax, this is a hands-on role encompassing income tax planning, tax accounting, tax compliance, and tax controversy. This leader will serve as the primary strategic partner to our non-U.S. leaders, ensuring seamless alignment across our global tax footprint, which includes over 135 legal entities. A critical near-term priority will be leading the tax integration of a recent major acquisition, harmonizing tax operations across newly acquired subsidiaries in 30+ non-U.S. jurisdictions. This leader will take full ownership of international tax planning and transfer pricing methodologies, designing sustainable, value-driven structures that support our expanding global presence while assisting with world-class tax compliance and reporting.
Responsibilities:
Global Strategy, Transfer Pricing, M&A and Controversy
- Lead the design and implementation of global transfer pricing policies, ensuring alignment with OECD guidelines and local requirements in key jurisdictions, including but not limited to the Americas, EMEA, and APAC
- Drive international tax planning initiatives, including intellectual property (IP) alignment, cross-border financing, and tax-efficient repatriation strategies
- Identify and implement tax savings opportunities designed to minimize cash taxes and reduce the overall effective income tax rate, which includes income tax research and analysis of acquisition/disposition activity, legal entity restructuring/reorganizations, E&P, basis, tax credits, and incentives
- Manage global transfer pricing documentation (Master File/Local Files) and oversee controversy defense for international tax-related matters
U.S. International Tax Technical & Compliance
- Provide partnership and oversight on complex U.S. international tax calculations, including NCTI, FDII, BEAT, and Foreign Tax Credit utilization and limitation
- Review and document technical positions related to Subpart F, Section 987/988, PTEP, and basis tracking
- Assist with the review and filing of annual Forms 5471, 8858, 8865, 8990, 8991, 8992, 8993, and 1118
Global Compliance & Reporting Management
- Oversee Big 4 and in-house global tax compliance and tax planning initiatives
- Exercise holistic oversight of the compliance lifecycle for 100+ non-U.S. entities, institutionalizing rigorous standards to ensure accurate and timely statutory filings
- Support efforts of continual process improvement where standardized processes are embedded in tax technology and HFM so GL balances are easily refreshed and imported/exported to/from the OneSource Suite of Products (e.g., OTP, OIT, GAM, UTP, OSA, OS Data Query)
- Assist with the review of non-U.S. quarterly ASC 740 US GAAP tax provisions, ensuring a bridge between the local controllers and the U.S. consolidated global tax provision
Leadership & Stakeholder Management
- Partner closely with the SVP, Global Head of Tax, and Director of International
- Tax Reporting & Compliance to communicate tax risks and opportunities to the
- CFO and Board of Directors
- Foster strong relationships with foreign controllers, regional finance heads, and external advisors in the Americas, EMEA, and APAC
- Manage a multidisciplinary, geographically dispersed team, promoting professional development and technical excellence
- Lead tax due diligence and structuring for future M&A activities and oversee international tax audits.
- Assist with the management of Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance by adhering to internal controls supported by detailed work plans, procedures, and narratives that are reviewed quarterly by RRD’s internal audit department and external audit firm
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance, required
- CPA, JD, or MST required
- Minimum of 16+ years of relevant corporate tax experience, with a significant focus on international tax and transfer pricing
- Experience utilizing OneSource Income Tax Software, EY Engine and Globe tools, SAP, and HFM
- Executive-level communication and presentation skills, with the ability to translate complex tax concepts for non-tax stakeholders, including executive leadership and the Board of Directors
- Strong leadership acumen with experience managing, mentoring, and developing geographically dispersed, cross-cultural teams
- Strategic mindset with a focus on global risk mitigation and value creation
- Proven track record in change management, process transformation, and driving operational efficiencies
- Strong interest and aptitude in process improvement, automation, and leveraging tax technologies to manipulate data efficiently
Additional Information
RRD's current salary range for this role is $172,400 to $275,800 / year. The salary range may be adjusted based on the applicable geographic location of the hired employee, and the range may change in the future. At RRD, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions may vary based upon, but not limited to education, skills, experience, proficiency, performance, shift and location. Depending on the role, in addition to base salary, the total compensation package may also include participation in a bonus, commission or incentive program.
