Job Description

We seek an energetic and ambitious leader to be our new Field Engineering Supervisor, who will be responsible for the daily management and leadership of Field Engineering team and processes. In this role you will select, train, and supervise the field engineering team while they support the deployment of Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS), Wi-Fi, Point-to-Point, and other communication systems throughout the nation. You will review equipment specifications, along with owner requirements, and manufacturer’s instructions, to determine and evaluate designs, methods, and installation procedures. You will also provide advanced RF subject matter expert support to internal and external customers. This is a customer facing position and requires customer service soft skills. 

Your location can be anywhere within the USA (virtual/home office) and will report to the VP of Operations. You should be able to work productively in a remote and independent setting and be within commuting distance of a major airport for travel needs.

What You'll Do (responsibilities):

  • Supervise, mentor, and provide job feedback, including performance reviews for the Field Engineering team members.
  • Oversee technicians and engineers responsible for the execution of all stages of wireless projects from project planning through implementation.
  • Train the engineers in subjects such as: lessons learned, RF theory, troubleshooting, etc.
  • Help set and execute RF Connect standard processes throughout the fulfillment process of wireless solutions.
  • Proactively manage overall company project revenue/margin/profit objectives and improve on them through aggressive cost and process improvement without sacrificing quality or technical or scope requirements   
  • Remain current on relevant technical information by attending meetings, conferences, task forces, and events.
  • Evaluates new products and services from vendors and participate in the development of training programs to improve expertise, safety, and understanding of products and services for their staff.
  • Provide Level 3 and Level 4 remote support to the field engineers and the maintenance team.
  • Track expenses and work hours by project and phase using assigned productivity software/websites.
  • Assist Product development team as required with RF and other technical knowledge.
  • Create and update Engineering Methods and Procedures and technical Memos/White papers.
  • Conduct technical design, and bill of material, reviews and assist in creating detailed scopes of work.
  • Interview and provide feedback on Engineer candidates in the hiring process.
  • Respond to internal and external customer technical questions.
  • Perform as a DAS deployment field engineer as needed.
  • Inspect, validate, and certify equipment installation, including RF Path loss testing.
  • Commissioning telecommunications equipment.
  • Conduct RF signal measurements and testing to validate link budget and amplifier gain settings.
  • Integrate RF signal sources with radiating elements.
  • Conduct system adjustments to optimize network coverage and capacity.
  • Document design changes and follow-up with project support throughout the Deployment phase.
  • Conduct methodical troubleshooting, and fault analysis, on RF network systems.
  • Maintain a positive, empathetic, and professional attitude toward customers and co-workers.
  • Earn and maintain personal industry certifications and request/schedule required training. 

Qualifications

Education/Vocational Training:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience – Electronics or Computer Science
  • DAS – Commscope/Andrew, Corning/Mobile Access, JMA, ADRF, SOLID Certifications or equivalent preferred
  • iBwave, JDSU, Invex, or similar, AutoCAD preferred

Skills You Have:

  • At least 5 years of experience in a telecommunications role and systems environment (RF, DAS, or Wireless)
  • Preferred candidate will have previous experience leading a technical support team, but not required.
  • Significant field experience in a complex technology and systems environment
  • Demonstrated skills with project management tools and methodologies, project lifecycle, and problem solving
  • Technical knowledge and ability to establish and apply processes and solutions
  • Proven superior customer relationship skills
  • Leadership by example
  • Engineering/Estimating experience
  • Wireless RF systems
  • Experience with accounting and/or purchasing software and ability to analyze projected material cost versus actual cost are strongly preferred (NetSuite or other ERP software experience is a bonus)
  • Demonstrated organization skills, time management, attention to detail, team-oriented communication skills, and ability to meet deadlines are strongly preferred

Environmental/Physical Demands 

  • Must be capable of lifting within regulatory limits
  • In accordance with customer site requirements, COVID vaccination may be required prior to entry. 
  • This position sometimes operates in commercial construction sites, hospitals, and occupied commercial & government buildings. Some activities require the use of a ladder or lift and standing or walking for extended periods of time. When in the office uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, etc.
