Job Description

RESPEC seeks a Staff Accountant to join our Rapid City, SD, team. If you enjoy working as part of a team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, consider growing your career with us! This is an on-site/office-based position.

The Staff Accountant is responsible for maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the organization's financial records through account reconciliations, fixed asset management, lease accounting, sales and use tax compliance, and general accounting support. This position plays a critical role in month-end close activities, financial reporting, and ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Prepare and maintain general ledger account reconciliations on a monthly basis
  • Research and resolve account discrepancies and reconciling items in a timely manner
  • Prepare and post journal entries to ensure accurate financial reporting
  • Support external audit requests by providing documentation and explanations as needed
  • Maintain the fixed asset subledger and related schedules
  • Record asset additions, disposals, transfers, and retirements
  • Calculate and record monthly depreciation expenses
  • Maintain lease records and supporting documentation
  • Prepare lease-related reconciliations and journal entries
  • Prepare and file monthly, quarterly, and annual sales and use tax returns
  • Assist with sales and use tax audits and inquiries from taxing authorities
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and maintain a clean driving record; position requires operating a company or personal vehicle during work hours for business-related travel.

Qualifications

Our ideal candidate will possess:

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in accounting from an accredited institution; or a minimum of 2 years of experience in general accounting or a related field
  • Experience with account reconciliations, sales and use tax reporting, and general ledger accounting preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft365 (Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), including Excel fundamentals
  • Ability to demonstrate exceptional productivity and reliability to ensure work is completed accurately and on time.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Compensation: Salary depends on experience and expertise. Compensation includes a comprehensive fringe-benefits package. RESPEC is a 100% employee-owned company and employees are eligible for participation in the Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) after a qualifying period.
