Job Description

This position is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of financial reporting, as well as implementing and maintaining effective financial controls. The Financial Controller works closely with various departments, executives, and external stakeholders to support strategic decision-making and optimize the financial performance of the company.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Financial Reporting and Analysis:

    • Prepare timely and accurate financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
    • Conduct regular financial analysis to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement.
    • Provide insightful recommendations to management based on financial analysis and reporting.
  2. Budgeting and Forecasting:

    • Develop and manage the annual budgeting process in collaboration with department heads.
    • Monitor and analyze budget-to-actual performance, investigating and explaining variances.
    • Prepare financial forecasts to assist in strategic planning and decision-making.
  3. Financial Controls and Compliance:

    • Establish and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulations.
    • Implement and monitor financial policies and procedures to enhance the accuracy and reliability of financial reporting.
    • Work with internal and external auditors to facilitate audits and address any audit findings.
  4. Cash Management:

    • Manage cash flow and liquidity to meet operational needs and financial obligations.
    • Implement effective treasury management practices, including optimizing banking relationships and monitoring working capital.
  5. Risk Management:

    • Identify and assess financial risks, proposing strategies to mitigate potential exposures.
    • Monitor market trends and economic indicators to anticipate and respond to potential financial challenges.
  6. Team Leadership and Development:

    • Lead and mentor a team of finance professionals, providing guidance and support in their day-to-day activities.
    • Foster a collaborative and high-performance culture within the finance department.
  7. Strategic Financial Planning:

    • Contribute to the development of the organization's strategic plan by providing financial insights and recommendations.
    • Evaluate the financial implications of strategic initiatives and investment opportunities.
  8. Stakeholder Communication:

    • Communicate financial performance and key metrics to senior management, board members, and other relevant stakeholders.
    • Collaborate with department heads to provide financial guidance and support for decision-making.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of BSc Finance, Accounting, or equivalent
  • Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN)
  • Minimum of 5 Years relevant experience.
