Job Description
Project Engineer to support the Management of Cesium and Strontium Capsule (MCSC) Project. This project will provide the capability to transfer approximately 100M curies of encapsulated cesium and strontium from their current underwater storage location in the Waste Encapsulation and Storage Facility (WESF) to a new Capsule Storage Area. Selected candidate will be a key contributor to the design, construction, and start-up activities that are necessary to successfully implement this project. This position will be a member of the Integrated Project Team and support the preparation of project documentation required by DOE O 413.3B to be included in the Critical Decision packages. Specific work assignments will support the preparation of conceptual and final designs, preparation and implementation of construction contracts, and coordination with WESF to identify and implement actions needed to support the capsule transfer.
This position requires very strong written communications skills.
Matrixed to the Project Manager, successful candidate will:
- Develop project baseline documents and Capital Project documentation.
- Support Facility Design Authority/System Engineer in maintaining and readying existing WESF systems to support the transfer of cesium and strontium capsule to dry storage.
- Review project submittals, answer Fabricator Requests for Information.
- Prepare Design Change Notices.
- Write statements of work and perform duties of Buyer’s Technical Representative for multiple contracts.
- Provide interface between contractors, design engineering, facility engineering, construction management, field supervision, occupational safety, and facility operations and radiological control.
- Resolve technical issues in the field.
- Assist project manager with contract management and schedule tracking.
- Qualify as a site engineer.
- Perform general WFMP engineering and project duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering plus 5 years engineering experience. Strong technical background and excellent written communication skills are required. Experience working in nuclear facilities required.
Desired Qualifications:
PE license.
PMP certification or previous project engineering experience highly desirable.
Startup experience.
Previous qualification as a Design Authority or System Engineer at a DOE site.
Previous project or engineering experience in a NRC environment.
