FACULTY: Assistant Professor, Interior Architecture and Design (tenure-track)

Job Description

Summary: The College of Arts and Sciences at Queens University of Charlotte is seeking an Assistant Professor of Design to contribute to the undergraduate program in Interior Architecture + Design. The search is open in regards to specialty area. The selected candidate will join a collaborative department dedicated to multidisciplinary teaching and creative scholarship. The position begins in August 2024.

The Interior Architecture + Design program at Queens takes a practicum-based approach to design education. The selected candidate will teach courses in their specialty area, including at least one studio course, as well as other program-specific courses annually. They will have the opportunity to participate in interdisciplinary learning communities through the university’s award-winning general education program and to co-lead courses that entail short-term study abroad trips with students through the John Belk International Program. There will also be opportunities to engage in scholarship, participate in service, and mentor students through advising and undergraduate research experiences—all to enrich the academic life of the university.

This position is exempt from provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is not eligible to earn overtime pay or compensatory time off for additional hours worked. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.

Essential Requirements:

  • Applicants must hold at least one degree in Interior Design and an appropriate terminal degree.
  • Candidates should demonstrate evidence of effective university-level teaching or related experience in a comparable professional setting.
  • Applicants must show evidence of professional practice experience in interiors, substantiated through a professional portfolio and hold NCIDQ certification (or be eligible to complete certification).
  • Commitment to cultivating learning environments that foster a sense of belonging for all students.
  • Knowledge and professional practice in REVIT, Sketchup, Enscape, AutoCAD, and the Adobe Suite.

Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience mentoring undergraduate students in creative work and community engagement.
  • Experience and knowledge teaching Fundamental Interior Design Principles.
  • Experience using technology-supported pedagogies and active learning to engage students with diverse backgrounds.
  • Additional professional credentials (e.g., LEED, WELL, and EBD).

Work Conditions
