Job Description
Summary: The Blair College of Health invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in Sport Management within the Department of Health and Human Performance beginning August 2024.
We seek an energetic, collaborative faculty colleague who will contribute to the student experience and the mission of the department, college and university. The successful candidate will have a doctoral degree in sport management or closely related field and teaching experience within sport management at the collegiate level. Our new colleague will teach undergraduates primarily within in the Sport Management program but they will also have the opportunity to contribute to the university’s nationally recognized multidisciplinary General Education program and its Honors program. There will also be opportunities to engage in scholarship, participate in service, propose and lead study abroad programs, and mentor students through advising and undergraduate research experiences – all to enrich the academic life of the university.

The Blair College of Health houses the Health and Human Performance department which offers undergraduate majors in Exercise and Sport Science, Sport Management, and Health Sciences, and a graduate Masters in Health Administration degree. And the Presbyterian School of Nursing which offers the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree and Master of Science in Nursing degree.
This position is exempt from provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is not eligible to earn overtime pay or compensatory time off for additional hours worked. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Teach undergraduate courses in sports management and university programs such as the General Education Program and the Honors Program.
- Mentor and advise students
- Sustain currency and relevancy through a scholarly research agenda leading to peer-reviewed publications and presentations.
- Service to the unit, university, and profession
- Engagement in curriculum design and assessment within the program.
- Commitment to professional development in teaching
- High-quality communication and collaboration with colleagues and students
- Commitment and contribution to the University’s mission and strategic plans
Secondary Duties and Responsibilities
- Other duties and special projects may be assigned to meet department and/or university goals
Qualifications
Experience, Knowledge and Skills Required
- Doctoral degree in Sport Management or a closely related field.
- Teaching experience at the undergraduate level in sport management related curriculum.
- A passion for teaching, engaging students, and a commitment to professional development in teaching
- Ability to communicate and collaborate with colleagues and students
- Demonstrated capacity to pursue academic inquiry and research resulting in scholarly production
Preferred Qualifications and Expectations:
- Experience teaching in various course modalities including online and hybrid.
- Willingness to work with fellow faculty in the department and the university’s Vandiver Center for Career Development, to develop and maintain networks that facilitate student engagement with industry professionals, particularly in the Charlotte market.
