Associate Director of Student Engagement and Director, Fraternity and Sorority Life

Job Description

Summary: The Associate Director of Student Engagement is solely responsible for oversight of Queens’ Fraternity and Sorority Life community at Queens, including managing the Lodges at Greek Village and future growth of the community and physical footprint. This is a full-time position that reports to the Assistant Dean of Student Engagement. This position is exempt from provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is not eligible to earn overtime pay or compensatory time off for additional hours worked.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
•    Oversee Queens’ Fraternity and Sorority Life community, ensuring campus and chapter policies are enforced and nurturing the system’s continued growth as an important component of the Queens experience.
•    Develop a strategic and capital plan to support all Fraternity and Sorority Life organizations.
    o    Alpha Delta Pi, Alpha Kappa Alpha, Alpha Tau Omega, Chi Omega, Kappa Alpha Psi, Kappa Delta, Phi Mu, Pi Kappa Phi, Zeta Phi Beta
•    Serve as advisor to the Inter-Greek Council, Panhellenic Council, Inter-Fraternal Council, and Order of Omega. 
•    Serve as a liaison between campus chapters, national organizations and local advisors to maintain strong working relationships.
•    Provide leadership, direction and training to all Greek lettered organizations.
•    Develop programming and workshops for members of Fraternity and Sorority Life, including but not limited to leadership development, risk management, chapter development and character development.
•    Plan and facilitate a President and Executive Leadership Caucus and a New Member Summit.
•    Promote collaboration and community among all Greek lettered organizations. 
•    Maintain detailed records and reports on all Greek lettered organizations.
•    Promote and support the campus-wide initiative around evening and weekend programs to ensure consistent student engagement and vibrant campus community and culture.
•    Work collaboratively with other departments to bring educational programming to campus that will provide educational or cultural dialogue to the community.  
•    Support the department of Student Engagement in organizing activities and annual traditions for the campus community.
•    Consistently serve as an advocate for diversity and cross-cultural understanding to create a welcoming campus to all students

Non-Essential Duties
•    Special projects and other duties may be assigned to ensure achievement of department and university goals.

Qualifications

Experience, Knowledge and Skills Required
•    Three to five years of professional experience in Student Affairs or a related field.  
•    Bachelor’s degree in higher education, counseling, student personnel, or a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience Master’s Degree strongly preferred in higher education, counseling, student personnel, or a related field.
•    Solid understanding of student development theory.
•    Experience advising a collegiate level Fraternity and Sorority Life system.
•    Demonstrated track record of actively promoting diversity and inclusion of all students.
•    Demonstrated organization and planning skills; strong follow-up and follow-through skills to ensure completion of goals and objectives.
•    Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as skill in presenting effectively to and facilitating group process.
•    Some leadership experience and ability to influence and provide training and coaching to Fraternity and Sorority Life members
•    Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to quickly establish and maintain strong rapport with campus constituents
•    Solid problem-solving skills, critical thinking and the ability to analyze components and arrive at a logical course of action while knowing when to ask for assistance or direction
•    Demonstrated organization and follow-up and follow-through skills to ensure completion 
•    Must be able to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to effectively prioritize multiple competing tasks and demands.
•    Computer proficiency (Microsoft Office preferred, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
•    High level of energy and initiative, and willing and able to work with minimal supervision while contributing positively to a cooperative, high-functioning team
•    Demonstrated ability to maintain strict confidentiality of privileged information and perform duties that require tact, independent judgment, diplomacy, and discretion
•    Flexibility to regularly work evenings and weekends to achieve objectives of the position; ability and willingness to travel on behalf of the university, including trips requiring overnight stays (<25% of time).

•    Talking: Frequently convey detailed or important instructions and ideas accurately, loudly, or quickly.
•    Lifting, Pulling, Pushing: Exert up to 50 pounds for force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
•    Cognitive/Emotional: Ability to critically think and concentrate. Must be able to respond quickly to changes in conditions – 75‐100% of the time.
Work Conditions
•    Work in office environment, involving contact with faculty, staff, students, parents, service providers and vendors.
•    Work has deadlines, multiple interruptions and may be stressful at times.
•    Flexibility to regularly work evenings and weekends to achieve objectives of the position 
•    Work may require occasional overnight travel.
