Job Description

  • Play a critical role in keeping aircraft flying by ensuring the right components are sourced, procured and delivered when needed 
  • Build strong partnerships with contract suppliers and internal stakeholders to drive inventory availability and operational performance 
  • Use data, commercial insight and problem-solving skills to identify improvements and influence supply chain outcomes

The Qantas Engineering Supply Chain team plays a vital role in supporting safe and reliable operations across our network.  

As a Senior Component Buyer, you will manage the end-to-end supply of aircraft components, ensuring every step is actively followed up. This includes reviewing demand and consumption trends, supporting forecasting activities, coordinating procurement and delivery of serviceable inventory, monitoring unserviceable component returns in accordance with contractual requirements, resolving supply issues, managing urgent operational requests, and maintaining accurate records to support operational priorities. 

This is a highly collaborative role where you'll work closely with Engineering, Planning, Logistics, Finance and suppliers around the world to proactively manage inventory, resolve supply challenges and support critical operational needs. 

What you'll be doing 

  • Executing inventory plans and managing end-to-end supply chain activities of aircraft components and aviation materials 
  • Expediting critical orders to meet operational requirements  
  • Supporting the development of component forecasts and inventory planning 
  • Analysing inventory and supplier data to identify trends, risks and improvement opportunities.  Monitoring supplier performance. 
  • Developing and maintaining strong supplier relationships 
  • Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance supply chain performance 
  • Championing safety, compliance and operational excellence in everything you do 

What you'll bring 

  • Experience in supply chain, planning, purchasing, repairs, inventory management, customer support services 
  • Tertiary qualification in business, finance, logistics or a related discipline 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and ERP Systems 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills 
  • Strong customer focus and attention to detail, with excellent stakeholder, supplier relationship and communication skills. 
  • Ability to positively influence others in the achievement of operational objectives 
  • Self-motivation and ability to work without supervision 
  • Aviation industry experience (desirable)
