Job Description

As an Engineering Intern, you will work a three-month paid Internship based in either Sydney or Brisbane. You’ll have the opportunity to contribute to landmark programs such as Project Sunrise, whilst enhancing performance, reliability and efficiency of our existing fleet through teams such as Engines, Performance or Fleet Management. Interns will be placed within teams within Qantas Mainline or Regional (QantasLink) businesses, depending on project availability.  

With two positions available in Brisbane and nine in Sydney, this program is designed to give students a rare, hands-on perspective into one of the world’s most renowned airline groups. You’ll work alongside seasoned professionals, developing practical skills and exploring the latest advancements that keep our fleet operating at the cutting edge. 

To be eligible for the Qantas Engineering Summer Internship Program, you must:  

  • Be available to commence your internship in late November 2026, working full time (5 days per week) for a period of 3 months 
  • Maintained a Credit average or above 
  • Currently be in your penultimate year of study in one of the below disciplines: 
  • Computer Science  
  • Software Engineering  
  • Mechatronic  
  • Aeronautical  
  • Mechanical  
  • Electrical Engineering  

Strong programming skills—in languages like Java, Python, HTML5, iOS mobile development, or Matlab—will be highly regarded, particularly for specific projects.  

Qantas welcomes applications from candidates based outside of Brisbane and Sydney. However, please note that successful candidates will be required to relocate at their own expense.

  • Be a highly motivated, energetic and ambitious individual  
  • Possess strong verbal and written communications and teamwork orientated  
  • Have the ability to liaise and present to all levels within the organisation  
  • Have a genuine interest in the Airline/Aviation Industry  
  • A permanent Resident or Australian/NZ citizen at time of application
