We now have a rare opportunity available in the role of Head of Engineering for our Australia and New Zealand Operations function. Reporting directly to our Chief Operating Officer, you will act as a crucial member of the Jetstar Operations Leadership Team, whilst delivering exceptional people leadership to the broader Engineering and Maintenance Team. You will focus on driving our strategic vision whilst ensuring the safe, compliant and cost-effective delivery of Jetstar Engineering and Maintenance Services.
As Head of Engineering, your accountabilities will include:
- Leading engineering strategy and transformation with a focus on engineering excellence and efficiency and instilling a culture of performance and accountability
- Driving a safety culture, ensuring that the safety of our team members and customers is our number one priority
- Promoting collaboration with other business units striving towards elevated cohesion and overall airline performance (focusing on the big picture)
- Ensuring that Jetstar operations are conducted in a manner that does not conflict with Jetstar’s obligations as an AOC and Head of Airworthiness and Maintenance Control
- Coordinating the day-to-day activities of the Maintenance and the Continuing Airworthiness Management Areas
- Developing, implementing and supervising the management of systems to support all engineering areas of the airline
- Identifying and leading the implementation of opportunities to achieve Jetstar’s strategic, commercial and cost objectives – delivering a strategy that achieves the agreed engineering services goals
- Ensuring that Engineering areas are adequately resourced to meet and support the requirements of the AOC and CoA
- In collaboration with Employee Relations and the broader Engineering Leadership Team, own the Employee Relations Strategy, ensuring the effective and timely negotiation of EBAs, ensuring decisions made are aligned with the Jetstar Scorecard
- Ensuring Engineering achieves its financial targets, including through the preparation, implementation, monitoring and control of the function’s budget.
As the Head of Engineering, you will bring a relentless focus on driving a safety culture. You will have the freedom to act and make decisions on behalf of the Jetstar COO to ensure the safe and compliant operation of all Engineering functions relating to the Air Operators Certificate as defined in Civil Aviation Act Section 28. This will also hold accountability as the Head of Airworthiness and Maintenance Control/Continuing Airworthiness Manager.
About you
Where searching for someone who:
- Meets CASR 119 and CASR 42 qualifications and experience requirements
- Demonstrates the ability to acquit CASR 119 and CASR 42 defined responsibilities
- Has an aircraft maintenance engineer qualification or a related allied trade qualification, ideally complimented by further studies in business or leadership (highly regarded)
- Has a genuine passion for people leadership, demonstrated through significant management experience and success in leading and developing a management team
- Brings significant experience in Engineering Maintenance Operations, including a comprehensive knowledge of the regulations and standards; and
- Has superior decision-making quality and the ability to confidently manage ambiguity and complexity.
