Job Description

Second Shift: Monday – Thursday, 3:00 PM – 1:00 AM

The Welder performs welding operations to modify, fabricate, repair, and construct metal parts and equipment for molten metal jet pumps. This role involves welding setup and layout, working from blueprints and sketches, inspecting completed work, and maintaining quality and safety standards.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities

  • Set up, lay out, and fit up welding assignments according to blueprints and specifications.
  • Select the appropriate welding equipment and method based on blueprints and job requirements.
  • Safely handle materials using a forklift and other equipment as needed.
  • Inspect materials and completed welds to ensure they meet quality standards and blueprint tolerances.
  • Perform repairs on metal components to restore functionality and performance.
  • Complete required job records, inspection reports, and barcode tracking accurately.
  • Track time worked on each job using a barcode scanner and communicate any significant time deviations to the supervisor.

Qualifications

Education/Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent plus 3 years of welding experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Welding certification from a technical school or college preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Experience with MIG and TIG welding and welding various types of metals.
  • Ability to set up, lay out, and fit up welding assignments.
  • Ability to read and work from blueprints, drawings, and sketches.
  • Ability to use measuring tools, hoists, and power tools.
  • Basic math and measurement skills.
  • Ability to inspect welds and work to required tolerances and quality standards.
  • Ability to accurately complete job records and use barcode technology.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain forklift certification.
  • Strong attention to detail, judgment, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively as part of a team.
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to bend, reach, use stairs, and lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to loud noise, moving mechanical equipment, fumes, and airborne particles.
  • Ability to wear required PPE, including safety glasses/goggles and approved footwear.
