Job Description

Reporting into the EVP - Corporate Strategy, the SVP - Communications is responsible for developing, implementing, leading, and executing a broad range of pillar-wide communications strategies.

While the primary focus of the role will be on external communications, strategic media relations, and PR, it will encompass a broad range of strategic and tactical communication functions including thought leadership, client development, growth enablement, pitching and activating content, crisis communications, executive communications, marketing communications, and corporate communications.

The perfect candidate is both highly collaborative and independently capable, equal parts big-picture strategy and ground-level execution, and loves to put pen to paper on a consistent basis.

PLEASE NOTE: This is a hybrid position requiring onsite collaboration an average of 3 days/week. The role is based out of our New York City office located at 375 Hudson Street; all candidates must be local to the NYC metro area and willing to commute into that office on a regular basis.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Executive Leadership Team to develop and drive strategic communications plans and metrics.
  • Apply a consultative approach to drive external, media relations, and PR strategies and tactics for multiple agency brands in partnership with brand marketing and communications leads.
  • Establish and grow relationships with key members of the press, media outlets, and social platforms both inside and outside of the industry.
  • Drive and elevate external visibility for the pillar and our thought leaders via submissions for speaking engagements, industry honors, editorial opportunities, etc.
  • Pitch and activate content as well as partner with other Comms and Strategy leads to help shape the strategy behind it.
  • Write content for a variety of platforms including speeches, senior leadership messages, press releases, Q&A, key messages, award entries, and blog and social media posts.
  • Manage internal communications efforts to advance agency culture and morale and inform our employee population.
  • Develop and promote a unique “brand story” for the pillar in order to promote PDX and its brands as industry leaders as well as an employment destination for top talent.
  • Serve as a key partner for Business Development, Growth, and Analyst Relations teams in communicating our story across current and prospective clients.
  • Own and maintain an advanced KPI framework that leads to growth impact rather than just impressions.
  • Edit, proofread, and advise on agency communications prior to distribution.
  • Manage and develop team members and interns.

Qualifications

  • 15+ years of experience crafting, leading, and driving complex media relations, PR, marketing communications, and/or corporate communications strategy for a large, matrixed organization, preferably within the advertising industry.
  • Experience collaborating with executive leadership teams and senior management to develop, evaluate, assess, and execute communication strategies that will help advance the reputation, reinforce culture, and drive growth for the agency.
  • Exceptional written communication skills with an ability to succinctly craft pitches, bylines, articles, press releases, memos, speeches, blog posts, emails, and other communications in a variety of tones and voices.
  • Experience leading both external and internal communications functions for an organization.
  • Experience building and cultivating relationships with members of the media/press in the advertising industry and across the general business/technology space.
  • A desire to serve in a player-coach capacity as both a strategic leader as well as the principal marcomm writer within the pillar.
  • Outstanding verbal communication skills with proven experience presenting effectively to varied audiences.
  • An ability to understand, interpret, and assess the impact of potential communication strategies within the industry and across the larger business community.
  • Extensive knowledge of industry trends and the current business, economic, and political climate.
  • A high degree of business and political savvy with an ability to navigate complex organizational structures, understand and prioritize multiple concurrent needs, and develop relationships with executives at PDX, within agency brands, and across Groupe.
