About the Opportunity

The assistant controller will handle high-level accounting, managerial accounting, and oversee the global financial activities of the company (currently US and UK/EU with potential expansion to additional markets). The Assistant controller will manage and supervise specific aspects of accounting from payroll to tax compliance. Will report to the Senior Director, Controller, and will assist with the development of internal control policies, procedures, and financial planning as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Hiring, training, and retaining accounting staff as assigned
  • Responsible for all accounting functions across multiple business units and countries, including:
    • Monthly close management under tight deadlines, include journal entry and reporting package review
    • Recurring and ad hoc financial reporting needs for management and Groupe
    • Documenting pivotal controls of each agency for audit purposes
    • Collaborate with Client Finance teams to review AR/AP and other client-related matters
  • Identify FX exposure and recommend hedging strategies to mitigate them
  • Review monthly analytics prepared by team on key processes including receivables, revenue/media accruals and payables focusing on aged balances and share insights with Global CFO and Finance Directors
  • Prepare well documented workpapers for external and internal audits relating to financial reporting and controls
  • Manage relationships with both internal and shared service teams (AP, Treasury, ERP, Tax, etc.) to facilitate efficient day-to-day operations
  • Assessing current accounting operations, offering recommendations for improvement, and implementing new processes
  • Participate in implementation of ERP enhancements to ensure team is properly trained on those impacts to processes or month end close tasks
  • Partner with many sister agency teams’ regarding intercompany reporting to ensure proper elimination of intercompany transactions
  • Mentor direct team and peripheral FP&A teams on accounting best practices and continued process improvements to scale operations with growing businesses

Qualifications

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance or related field, MBA or CA/ICWA/CPA/CMA/CGMA preferred
  • Minimum 14 years’ experience in accounting/finance
  • Experience in working with multiple legal entities under different legal umbrellas
  • Strong competency with complex ERP (SAP preferred) and other financial systems (HFM, Blackline, etc.)
  • Deep knowledge of accounting principles and close familiarity with applying US GAAP, IFRS, Sarbanes-Oxley and SEC regulations
  • Exceptional organization and attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively
  • Strong analytical skills, with a passion for accuracy, problem solving and critical thinking
  • Experience managing audits
  • Initiative to automate processes
  • Must be comfortable interfacing with employees outside of the office at other locations, via phone, email and web meetings to gain understanding and obtain information to complete monthly tasks
  • Must be a strong team player
