Position in a Nutshell

 

The expectation for this mid-level position is to demonstrate the ability to creative problem-solving and designing marketing communication materials for business assignments.

 

An Art Director develops and executes creative marketing ideas and materials to solve client business challenges.  Shows competency in developing ideas and executions for creative product. Has a good sense for design fundamentals and visual esthetics.  Collaborates a copywriter and other agency disciplines to generate ideas and create concepts that are on strategy, on brand and achieve client objectives.

 

An Art Director should be curious, ambitious, open-minded, collaborative and showcase their creativity with both ideas and executions. They should be able to demonstrate basic knowledge of creative solutions for business problems while collaborating with others to learn and delvelop quality work that meets the needs of a project brief. An Art Director is also continuing to build their brand reputation within the agency.

 

Day-to-Day Responsibilities: Deliver on Creative Assignments

 

Creative Development

    • Partners with a copywriter, or other team members, to create solutions for assignments
    • Composes rough layouts and design options quickly
    • Develops well-crafted design solutions for specific medias that are on brand and on strategy
    • Consistently presents great design principles to deliver clear and compelling communication
    • Is resourceful and innovative with business creative processes such as usage rights for stock photography and fonts
    • Has an understanding of company development processes
    • Consistently domonstrates open-mindedness and resillience to feedback and direction
    • Interprets feedback and provides solutions that fit and exceed the expectation

 

Concepting & Ideation

    • Participates in creative brainstorms
    • Leans into knowledge on current trends, pop culture, and current and past design themes
    • Brings original ideas, builds on others and facilitates collaborative thinking with others
    • Shows an understanding of business problems, opportunities and challenges and how to address them
    • Understands business and thinks outside of the box for solutions
    • Is understanding what ideas are effective or not and why

Qualifications

Knowledge & Skills

    • 2-5 years of experience as a Jr Art Director or is currently an Art Director
    • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite applications
    • Skillful application of typography, layout and design principles
    • Able to communicate clearly, thoroughly and succinctly both verbally and in writing; can clearly articulate an idea
    • Shows ability to present work internally, rationalizing creative decisions to problem solving.
    • Able to accept constructive feedback and apply in work
    • Current knowledge and understanding of where and how people interact with media, including at home, on the go, while shopping, mobile, broadcast, print, event, etc.
    • Collaborates well with others, demonstrated by partnering with other creatives and agency disciplines to successfully brainstorm and concept ideas
    • Anticipates potential problems and obstacles to project success, communicates concerns and develops solutions that go beyond what is expected
    • Comes prepared to all meetings: project kick-off, brainstorms, creative reviews and production turnover
    • Asks for or confirms the expectations for your deliverables and timing
    • Follow industry best practices in file builds
    • Follows company structures and proceedures for production hand-offs and file governance
    • Understands how to utilize communication platforms such as Teams, e-mail, LionBox, Servers
    • Keeps track of billing hours and has good time-mamgement skills
    • Handle other duties as assigned by supervisor
