Job Description

We have a really exciting job opening for the right candidate on our Wella team as Planning Director. We’re seeking a positive, open-minded and adaptable candidate who can turn their skills to a variety of account planning projects, both across traditional media and emerging digital touchpoints.

Beauty is a rapidly shifting and competitive space, and as a result, objectives sometimes change at short notice or plans need re-visiting and revising. The Planning Director will have the support of the wider planning team to respond to these pressures and deliver under an adaptable planning framework. Alongside this, normal functions of the day-to-day will mean the PD takes ownership of leading client and media owner calls, organising workflow and supporting their reports in ongoing career progression.

This role will report into the Business Director.

Wella

Wella is an established patch within the agency, having recently separated from the Coty holding group in 2021 (also a Zenith client). Wella holding company is comprised of two business divisions with Retail Hair and Professional. Across the portfolio you will look after Clairol, Wella Professional, Nioxin, Wella Care and OPI.

Wella company has had a strong emphasis on digital media, as media fragmentation has intensified and the overall landscape has changed.

For Clairol the key brand within retail hair, top-of-mind awareness is primarily driven through traditional TV comms, but the role will also require the candidate to navigate various digital channel offerings to build out the wider strategy across the smaller brand patches. The role also offers the opportunity to develop skills in B2B media, which relies on highly accurate targeting and provides space for innovative test and learn approaches to best deliver plans.

Working on Wella offers rapid skills development and an opportunity to work across a wide variety of businesses in the beauty and personal care space, which has seen rapid growth in recent years. The Planning Manager will sit at the core of the team and be an invaluable asset to both the agency and client in furthering the media agenda in 2022.

The Work

  • Account management and operations
  • Planning & responding to briefs
  • Responsible for ensuring budget is used optimally to deliver the desired results
  • Be the lynchpin for all campaigns working closely with planning team, strategists, activation teams and any other agency partners
  • Driving specific B2B solutions for the Professional side of the Wella business
  • Support the Business Director with commercials and internal reporting and management of the account

The Clients 

  • Taking a lead role in client meetings and build strong & trusted relationships with clients at all levels
  • Client consultation, developing the partnership Zenith has with Wella
  • Lead the day-to-day output, making sure this is always to a high standard
  • Liaising with and managing Q&A with the Wella brand team & digital leads

The Team

  • Manage a Planning Manager and a Planning Executive
  • Manage upward to Business Director for ongoing account work
  • Lead by example, helping direct reports and further their career skills and development
  • Set clear progression plans for your direct reports
  • Embrace and drive positive culture within your team

Qualifications

  • Have worked in a similar agency role, with experience planning and managing campaigns across all touch points
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to engage and form relationships with clients at all levels
  • Be strategic and commercially minded and be able to set direction for the account
  • Have previously managed a team with experience developing talent
