Job Description

Leo Burnett Design is looking to add a Design Director to our growing team to work with a large, multi-boarder client. 

The Design Director is a Director level position focused on developing and improving a group’s standards, methods and practices relative to design. In addition to methods and practices, the Design Director is responsible for shaping and elevating the group’s overall design efforts through direct oversight, the establishment of design direction on select projects, and by carrying out (or leading a team through) detailed design projects or executions.

The Design Director will work closely with the Group Creative Director, Creative Directors and Art Directors. The Design Director will collaborate with the CD and GCD on the assessment of current design approaches and their appropriateness for individual clients, as well as on the creation and adoption of new ones. The Design Director will motivate, mentor and coach the group’s staff of art directors to help them achieve a higher level of design in their creative product.

Responsibilities:

  • Leads art directors in establishing a unifying aesthetic, the visual manifestation of the strategy and marketing concept, for a client, brand or project.
  • Efficiently and independently produces/guides art directors in producing multiple original and compelling visual solutions that are provocatively designed, conceptually strong and deliver on the strategy. The Design Director sets the standard and inspires others to reach it.
  • Partners with creative directors to review and critique their team’s designs in an effort to elevate the work.
  • Plays a leadership role in the development, documentation and implementation of standards, methods and best practices relative to the delivery of world-class design.
  • Educates and mentors art directors in developing design methods and best practices to inspire greater experimentation and a higher level of design. Seeks out/encourages others to seek out and apply the latest design/cultural trends and innovative technologies/tools to broaden the range of solutions.
  • Maintains an expert knowledge of assigned client’s overall business (including consumer, channel and competitive environment, and emerging trends therein) and can communicate the ramifications for design. Develops and manages relationships with key client contacts within assigned brands, when appropriate.
  • Delivers/guides team in delivering well-structured, persuasive internal and/or client presentations.
  • Fosters a positive and collaborative team environment that encourages risk taking and innovation, where others can express their ideas with confidence.

 

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience working in a Creative Design Agency
  • Education in relevant industry considered an asset
  • Leadership experience working with direct reports
  • Experience working directly with clients, understanding briefs, and communicating needs
  • Strong time management skills, with the ability to project manage needs of team
  • Willingness to roll up your sleeves, aid in completing design work
  • A teamwork-oriented mindset – working collaboratively is in your DNA and you love when the whole team wins
  • Strong interest in 3D and motion design
  • We are looking for for conceptual product design + execution for a global client
  • Ideal candidate has experience in Keyshot, Redshift or Cinema 4D
  • Will invest in training
