Job Description

The Associate Medical Writer is responsible for assisting and/or managing the writing and referencing aspects of medical advertising and medical communications materials developed and produced by Razorfish Health, as well as attending Promotional Review meetings and implementing client feedback. This includes original content development, researching support and referencing copy via annotations, and collaborating with copywriters and other key departments. The associate is responsible for the quality, scientific and medical accuracy and integrity, and timeliness of assigned projects. To accomplish these tasks, the Associate Medical Writer will interact (virtually or in person when possible) with account team members, clients, and healthcare provider experts. This versatile position offer the opportunity to grow within the Medical or Creative department based on strengths and interests.

 

Responsibilities: 
 

·       Develop high quality, scientifically rigorous content that is in line with brand strategy and objectives, while adhering to referencing requirements, American Medical Association (AMA) guidelines, FDA rules and regulations, established timelines, and internal processes

·       Collaborate with scientific, creative, strategy, and account teams to research, write, and/or edit original educational content (e.g., PowerPoint slide sets, manuscripts, executive summaries, point-of-view summaries, video scripts) in distinct therapeutic categories, ensuring quality of work, scientific validity, medical accuracy and integrity, and clinical applicability

·       Learn from the mentorship of Scientific Director, Senior Medical Writer, Copywriters; cultivate expertise in assigned therapeutic area(s) and grow to assist as a training resource for freelance or newer employees

·       Research and secure references to ensure accuracy of medical/scientific statements and brand claims; ensure content is supported by reliable sources and organize reference libraries and annotations per account-specific referencing guidelines

·       Fact-check and annotate initial round of jobs and subsequent rounds as necessary (has the ability to understand scientific and medical data to ensure that copy accurately represents the source from which it was taken)

·       Attend status and kickoff meetings, medical/legal/regulatory review meetings, and other job-related meetings as needed

·       Participates in new program concept development and creative brainstorm sessions.

·       Able to demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills with team members, faculty, clients, and partner agencies

·       Adhere to project parameters including deadlines, budget, and content limitations; alerts team if job may go out of scope; proactively update manager and account leads on job-related status and recommendations

·       Build skills/is comfortable with speaking during client calls. Additionally, develop rapport with clients over time through demonstration of subject matter knowledge

·       Work towards enhancing efficiency, nimble learning, team productivity, and scientific/creative quality for all deliverables; opportunities to grow in Medical or Creative department

·       Adhere to all Razorfish Health policies and procedures; understand the role of Medical and Creative within the agency and works to set appropriate expectations and operating norms within the team

·       Helps manage scientific/editorial needs for live client meetings (virtual or travel on site when possible)

Qualifications

Education:

·       MD, PharmD, PhD, or Masters in Life Sciences is preferred; exceptional candidates with BS in Life Sciences will be considered
 

Professional Skills/Experience: 

·       Interest in creative and scientific writing required with zero (0) to one (1) year of clinical, writing, publishing and/or pharmaceutical experience preferred

·       Familiarity with medical advertising, medical communications, marketing/strategic planning, and the journal publication process is preferred

·       Able to quickly gain command of new therapeutic areas and disciplines if needed

·       Demonstrated ability to analyze and interpret scientific data

·       Able to ensure scientific accuracy by fact-checking all relevant copy

·       Excellent organizational, analytical, and interpersonal communication skills

·       Ability to work independently and manage projects with limited direction and work within tight deadlines is required

·       Strong verbal and written communication skills, mastery of English grammar, and ability to collaborate with copywriters, other team members, and clients

·       Familiarity with PubMed, online research mediums, and/or other document delivery systems is preferred

·       Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)

·       Open to travel on site to provide medical writing support for live meetings, workshops, etc. (when possible)
