Job Description

Publicis is seeking a talented and flexible Data Privacy Counsel to assist our North American businesses. The role is broad and involves advising our business on the various privacy risks, obligations and other issues related to privacy. This is a full-time, hybrid in-office position and may be located in Chicago, Dallas, Detroit, Montreal, or Toronto.  You will be a member of our Global Data Privacy Office (GDPO) and depending on seniority either report to Publicis Groupe´s Chief Data Privacy Officer or a senior member of the GDPO. 

Responsibilities

  • Member of the Publicis Groupe global data privacy team supporting select Publicis North American business units, as assigned
  • Support internal teams, providing them with appropriate advice and guidance, with the ability to effectively collaborate and communicate with diverse cross-functional teams.
  • Collaborate with internal business clients and our Global Security Office on responding to current/potential customer privacy/security assessment questionnaires.
  • Coordinate with internal teams across Publicis Groupe on multi-agency initiatives.
  • Provide support to members of the legal team on privacy matters and serve as subject matter expert on advertising technology, media, and advertising/marketing privacy issues for internal legal and business teams.
  • Assist the legal team in drafting, reviewing and negotiating data privacy provisions in complex commercial contracts.
  • Collaborate with our privacy operations team to adapt data governance materials such as inventory templates, vendor due diligence questionnaires, proprietary system questionnaires, and privacy impact assessment questionnaires.
  • Inform privacy operations team on new legislation and regulations, and partner to develop privacy program requirements and tasks
  • Draft and review website privacy notices, cookies policy, and other privacy notices and disclosures.
  • Maintain current knowledge of all relevant privacy legislation and regulations and distribute this knowledge across both the legal function and the wider business.
  • Monitor and evaluate the impact of evolving legislative, regulatory and industry proposals mainly for the advertising technology and marketing sector.
  • Help develop data privacy training materials and conduct privacy trainings.
  • Assist with privacy projects, such as policy and process development, in coordination with global GDPO members across Publicis Groupe.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of legal experience, with a preferred 2+ years of relevant privacy experience;
  • Juris Doctorate degree with an active law license to practice law in one or more states in the United States;
  • Privacy certification (such as CIPP/E, CIPP/US from IAPP or similar) or willingness to obtain upon hire;
  • Marketing and advertising technology experience preferred, including legal support for ad serving, programmatic buying, and data management.
  • Direct experience applying U.S. and European privacy laws, regulations, and industry guidelines, especially those relevant for media and advertising;
  • Practical and advanced understanding of the digital landscape and the compliance challenges related to data collection and processing in both identifiable and pseudonymous spaces;
  • Strong transactional background, including drafting and negotiating commercial transactions with respect to privacy and consumer protection issues;
  • Willingness and flexibility to be a team player and take on new responsibilities and challenges as privacy and Publicis Groupe’s services continues to evolve;
  • Ability to take ownership of projects and tasks and see them through completion. 
  • Commercially-minded and having good communication and inter-personal skills to work with all levels of internal management and negotiate with external clients and partners;
  • Enthusiastic, energetic data protection and privacy subject matter expert, with good knowledge of the latest regulatory changes and the related impacts on the media and advertising industry;
  • Able to work in fast-paced environment, provide advice under tight deadlines and competent in managing a varied workload;
  • A personable, team player.
