Job Description

  • The senior copy editor will perform duties that include the following:
  • Examine text carefully to find and correct typographical errors and mistakes in grammar, style and spelling.
  • Check documents for simple and complex errors.
  • Focus on correcting errors in spelling, grammar, syntax, punctuation, accuracy and formatting.
  • Work for a variety of print or online materials.
  • Make sure that the copy is easy to read and fits the brand’s editorial style.
  • Suggest changes to enhance text’s readability, conciseness and style.
  • Verify factual correctness of information, such as dates, prices, legal, among other information.
  • Check text for style, readability and adherence to brand’s writing standards.

Job Duties

  • Begin the editing process by fixing any grammatical, punctuation and spelling errors.
  • Review a multitude of projects to ensure grammatical correctness.
  • Ensure that messaging and legal are written in accordance with the style guide and branding.
  • Make sure messaging and legal are corrected to improve accuracy, consistency and they are free of errors, repetitions and inconsistencies.
  • Work closely with the creative team to suggest changes to enhance messaging readability, consistency and style.
  • Perform fact-checking tasks.
  • Verify all visual components are present.
  • Provide suggestions/modifications based on branding, style and standard usage of language.
  • Discuss, keep track and update brand’s nuances, changes in messaging and legal.
  • Create, maintain and/or update style guides and branding guidelines.

 

 

 

 

Qualifications

  • Must have experience with the automotive industry.
  • Must have worked with Adobe Pro.  
  • Have strong persuasion skills to influence others to perform well and succeed.
  • Be flexible and be able to pivot with multiple projects.
  • Someone who can own this account from inception to end, and build off that.
  • Candidate must be local, no remote opportunities at this time.
  • Be a self-starter, with the ability to collaborate, communicate cross-functionally and build trust with the team and client.
  • Passion for editing and proofreading.
  • Strong attention to detail with strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure, with strong time-management skills.
  • Creative, good judgment, detail-oriented, good communication and interpersonal skills, excellent editing skills.
  • Experience creating mark ups/comments in Word docs and PDFs (Adobe)
  • Experience working with AP style or any other demonstrated style guides.
  • 6+ years of experience as proofreader and/or copy editor.
